MAG LT916 lcd monitor wont power up

My mag lt916 lcd monitor will no power on.There is no led power light so I'm sure its not a display issue. It was working fine while I was online and then it just turned off. I could smell a faint burn odor from the air vents on the top. My real question is how to remove the back so that I can look inside to see if something melted or blew up. I removed the for screws at the bottom but I cant figure it out from there . Please help. Thanks Lupin..

I'm afraid there really isn't much i can say about removing the cover but will say that it sounds like its toast and opening up the back is only going to confirm the fact that you really don't have any idea what's in there...lol...sorry to shoot it straight but I've been there. Start shopping. Good luck

You guys crack me up...you believe that people came here to find how to replace capacitors on their monitors....and you're going to call me lame for telling him to start shopping for a new monitor. 9 out of 10 did NOT come here to replace capacitors GUARANTEED...they came here just to make sure that it was toast and not something that could maybe be fixed EASILY...you a got a solution post it but don't knock others because they (like I) feel like replacing capacitors is just a little outside their realm of skills. Would you accept the responsibility if someone electrocuted themselves?

I follow the instructions and replace the capacitors with the same rating. However, the monitor still refuses to display.
I don't have experience in repairing electronics, so i ask my friend who repairs electronics for many years to take a look.
He said one of the inverter transformers is dead. I think he is quite good, since he shows me the oscilloscope waveform of the bad transformer.

Does anyone know where i can buy the inverter transformer?

Just like to say thanks for the capacitor advise. I to had a problem finding a 25V cap so I got the 35, works like a charm.

Trust me I'm NO Electronics techie but this was actually simple thanks to your insight.
And I agree with your comment about the wise crack of the other poster, "Don't knock something till you try it!"

OK PEOPLE I GOT THE SOLUTION TO THE MAG INNOVISION LT916S GOING BLACK AFTER ANY LENGTH OF TIME BEING ON!!! I JUST REPAIRED MINE TODAY! THE PROBLEM IS THE CAPACITOR BANK IN THE POWER SUPPLY PART THERE ARE 6 CAPACITORS I HAD A FEW LEAKY ONES "NOT GOOD" THE CAPACITOR SPECS ARE AS FOLLOWS 470UF 25V 105 DEGREES C MEANING 470 MICRO FARAD/25 VOLTS I HAD A VERY HARD TIME FINDING THE 25 VOLT ONES SO I WENT WITH 470UF/35V 85 DEGREES C THEY MIGHT NOT LAST AS LONG AS THE OTHERS DUE TO THE TEMP RATING HOWEVER, IM THINKING SINCE THEY CAN HANDLE UP TO 35 VOLTS IT SHOULD EVEN OUT AND HEY, ITS WORKING SO FAR SO GOOD!! THE CAPACITORS ARE FROM UNDER A DOLLAR A PIECE TO A COUPLE BUCKS EACH. THE CAPACITORS HAVE A BOLD LINE RUNNING UP ON ONE SIDE INDICATING THE POLARITY. BOLD LINE SIDE IS "-" SIDE WITHOUT BOLD LINE ITS "+" THE POWER SUPPLY BOARD HAS THE POLARITYS STAMPED ON THE BOARD ITSELF UNDER EACH CAPACITOR. EASY 30 MINUTE FIX IF YOU ARE LEARY ABOUT SOILDERING, FIND A FRIEND THAT KNOWS HOW TO. ITS REALLY NOT THAT HARD THOUGH AND YOULL HAVE SOME DECENT ROOM TO WORK WITH. I PROMISE WHEN YOU OPEN IT UP YOU WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY SEE AT LEAST 4 OF THE 6 CAPACITORS BULDGING AT THE TOPS MAYBE EVEN LEAKING BROWNISH STUFF. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR THOUGH AND REPLACE ALL OF THEM WHILE YOUR IN THERE "THE SIX BIGGER ONES ONLY" IF ANY OF YOU NEED FURTHER HELP OR ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS PROJECT PLEASE FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME AT [email protected] I DAMN NEAR WENT CRAZY TRYING TO FIND A SOLUTION ON HOW TO FIX THIS THING SINCE I SPENT OVER 300 BUCKS FOR IT NEW. AND IM BY NO MEANS A EXPERT WHEN IT COMES TO THIS STUFF BUT I DO KNOW A FEW THINGS. AS IM SURE MOST OF YOU DO. TAKE CARE YOU ALL AND THANKS TO THE GY WHO MENTIONED SOMETHING ABOUT CAPACITORS BEING BAD IN HIS!

AND DONT LISTEN TO PEOPLE ON HERE WITH REMARKS LIKE "START SHOPPING" AND CRAP LIKE THAT. PEOPLE DONT COME HERE FOR SOMEONE TO JUST DISCOURAGE THEM. THEY COME HERE FOR A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THIER PROBLEM. SURE YOU MIGHT HAVE TO END UP BUYING A NEW ONE. HOWEVER YOU ALLREADY KNEW THAT. YOU CAME HERE FOR HELP ITS ALMOST SICKENING TO SEE SO MANY SMART ASSES THAT JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO CLUE HOW TO ASSIST YOU. THEY WILL TELL YOU THERES NO HOPE. YOU ONLY HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF THIS: WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS? WHAT DO I HAVE TO LOSE,I COULD THROW IT AWAY AND JUST BUY A NEW ONE. BIG WASTE. YOU MIGHT JUST END UP WITH ANOTHER MONITOR THAT MIGHT BARELY MAKE IT PAST THE WARRANTY. OR YOU COULD TRY TO FIX IT SINCE YOU REALLY HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE. YOU COULD EVEN TAKE IT TO A REPAIR SHOP."CRINGE" I PERSONALLY WOULD RATHER THROW IT AWAY THAN GIVE SOME REPAIRMAN 50-100 BUCKS FOR SOMETHING THAT TAKES 20-30 MINTUES TO FIX. IVE HAD THREE PEOPLE WRITE ME SAYING IT FIXED THIERS. SO GIVE IT A SHOT. GOOD LUCK!!

  • Anonymous Oct 27, 2007

HI GEORGE D! LIKE , SINCE YOU HAVE NO CLUE ON HOW TO FIX IT, WHY DO YOU FEEL OBLIGATED TO TELL OTHERS TO NOT BOTHER TRYING TO FIX THIERS? WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO POST ALL THE EMAILS THANKING ME FOR THE SOLUTION? I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY. I WILL ADMIT THAT A COUPLE OF PEOPLE ENDED UP HAVING INVERTER PROBLEMS. BUT OUT OF THE 25 OR SO EMAILS IVE RECIEVED ABOUT 23 HAVE BEEN SOMEONE SAYING THANKS FOR SAVING THEM THE COST OF A REPAIR OR A NEW MONITOR. AND IVE SAID IT BEFORE, IF YOU ARENT COMFORTABLE WITH SOILDERING OR DONT HAVE A BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF ELECTRICITY TAKE IT TO A REPAIR SHOP. PEOPLE COME HERE IN HOPES OF A SOLUTION, NOT SOME INTERNET WISE ASS TO TELL THEM WHAT THEY COULD HAVE FIGURED OUT ON THIER OWN. THEY CAME HERE FOR SOMEONE TO HOPEFULLY TELL THEM THAT THEY DONT HAVE TO REPLACE IT, OR PAY A ARM AND A LEG TO HAVE IT FIXED. THEY HAVE ALLREADY DECIDED THAT THEY ARE READY TO TRY FIX IT THEMSELVES. AND IM SURE THEY HAVE CHECKED ALL OTHER POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEM. TO SIT BACK AND TELL PEOPLE "YEP ITS TOAST" DOESNT GET PEOPLE ANYWHERE AND IS MORE OR LESS A INSULT THAN ANYTHING. IF EVERYONE ON HERE WAS LIKE YOU I WOULD PROBLE HAVE NEVER FIXED MINE AND HELP MANY OTHER PEOPLE FIX THIERS. YOUR COMMENT WAS ONE OF THE FIRST I SAW WHEN I WAS LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION TO FIX MINE AND I WAS REALLY CLOSE TO GIVING UP. SO YEA IM KNOCKING YOU, I WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE YOU HAVE DISCOURAGED FROM ATTEMPTING TO FIX THIER MONITOR? AND TO THOSE THAT DID NOT HAVE THE SAME CAPACITOR PROBLEM THAT I HAD, IVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT MAY BE THE INVERTER, AND UNFORTUNATLEY I DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO GET THEM OR HOW TO FIX THAT PART, AT LEAST GIVE THE CAPACITORS A VISUAL FOR SIGNS OF BULDGING AND/OR LEAKAGE. LIKE I SAID THIS WAS THE PROBLEM FOR MOST OF THE PEOPLE IVE RECIEVED EMAILS FROM. ALSO, TO GET THE FRONT BEZEL OF THE MONITOR OFF, UNSCREW THE SCREWS ON THE BOTTOM PART OF THE BEZEL, GENTLY PULL THE BOTTOM PART OUT FROM THE BODY OF THE MONITOR AND WORK IT UPWARD TWARDS THE TOP. IVE HAD A FEW PEOPLE ASK ME HOW TO GET THAT PART OFF CAUSE ITS A LITTLE TRICKY TO REMOVE BUT WORKING IT UPWARD SHOULD GET IT OFF OF THERE GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Sudden failure - working fine then next time switched on no apparent power (no indicator light on), no display

You could have a power supply problem in the LCD monitor.
First check the power lead, make sure it is firmly inserted into the mains socket and into the monitor.
Try inserting it into a different main socket that is operating, to see if the power indicator LED lights up.
If you have determined it is the LCD monitor is faulty, then it requires repairing.

Hello,

It is the picture picture board on your monitor that is malfunctioning, since the power led or button is on, but the display screen goes blank, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer within your vicinity or any service center to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to complicate issues.

Take care.

Mag monitor doesn't display bios post

The BIOS is sending the display information to the monitor but, when you turn your PC on, the LCD will be sleeping and it will take 1~2 seconds to wake up when receiving the display signal. The monitor is working and even if the BIOS messages aren't displayed, you can still press the correct keystrokes to get to the SETUP screen or press PAUSE in the keyboard to see what's going on in the POST.
If your LCD has a bicolor LED indicating the status (Standby/On) keep looking at it, when the LCD gets the video data, the LED turns instantly from amber to Green or blue even if the screen is still black. This way you can have an idea when the LCD gets the initial video signal and to press the keys accordingly.
Your PC will also delay the video output from the secondary video card because it's detected after the onboard card.

Mag Innovision 765S power supply light blinks and monitor power led blinks and no picture

I'd suggest looking at the mainboard. I assume the blink is rapid? A slow on, followed by a short off and back on again is normal. The fast blink thing is a mainboard issue, and the absence of blink (or light) is power "supply dead."

There is a problem transistor on the mainboard that seems to be the problem most of the time. Replacing it takes about 5 minutes if you have the tools and the talent, and the parts cost under 3 bucks at Radio Shack. Just pick up a pack of NPN switching transistors and de-solder / solder your way to a working monitor. There's usually only one on the board, so it's easy to spot.
