Does the shifting rod for the 3speed forward and reverse have an adjustment. This is a very old toro snow blower

The shifting rods have slotted ends that match up to each other. Moving the slots will index the lever on the dash to the gear case.

Has trouble shifting into reverse

LInkage may be out of adjustment. To check, put in forward position, loosen shifting rod jamb nuts then turn the rod until you have just a touch of play. This will allow the reverse to be completely ingaged when shifted.

After fixing waterpump & new prop, wouldn't rev right out in gear, screams in neutral.

what type of engine and what size prop? sounds like the shifting rod isnt in correctly. Depending on what type of motor it is if you moved the shifter while removing lower unit and did not get shifting rod in same position as control box lever it is stuck still in the position

How to adjust transmission shifter dial in dashboard

To adjust the shifter you will need to reise the truck and support the front with jackstands. Block the rear tires. Slide under the truck and look at the shifting rod coming from the steering column. Loosen the the lock screw on the adjustment swivel. Pull bback on the shifting rod and hold pressure on rod while tighting the lock screw. This should take care of the problem. Remember if the shifting rod does not slide freely then clean it off before trying to adjust. Hope this will help you.

Sticks when placed in gear after sitting all night

On top of the transmission in the engine compartment is the shifting mechanisms. Visually check for anything that is interfering with the shifting. Have a partner with the engine off trying shifting while you are looking at the mechanics of the shifting rod. WD40 or other penetrating oil all of these, but especially the shifting rod going down into the transmission; let it soak in awhile and have your partner try shifting it again. If there is still problems. Disconnect the shifting cable from the shift lever by removing the cable adjustment screw. Physically shift the transmission by hand using just the shifting lever and rod. If there is still a problem, then you are looking at removing the PRNDL Switch. It is located on the front of the transmission right next to the bottom right of the Solenoid (that box mounted on the front). This is for 4-speed transmission's only
Don't immediately replace this. Check the connection, unplugging it and looking at both male and female ends of the metal connections. Because of it's location this is prone to have corrosion and oxidation. Clean any oxidation/corrosion. Take out the PRNDL Switch using a deep socket or box wrench. After you remove this, check and clean the inside end of this switch. Metal particles gather on these switches and inibit operation. After cleaning, reinstall, reconnect and recheck the operation. If there is still a problem, remove and replace this switch and recheck operation.
