Sounds like the evap fan is not running. The fan takes cold air from the freezer to cool the refer compartment. If the freezer is cold the compressor is running. Generally the freezer will stay cold since the cooling coils are there but it must have the fan working to get the air up to the refer area. Pull everything out the freezer and take the back panel off to view the coils and fan, etc. It's a simple easy job to change the fan. If you find the coils are a total block of ice then it's another problem... the defrost cycle isn't working. Sooo... see if the fan is running in the freezer compartment first. See http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/Maytag/AA43-57.gif for fan location, item 18 is the fan motor. Let us know what you find out.

Ended up having a freon leak in tubing around door. Luckly the warranty was 5 years in sealed system. New one was FREE.

I turned off the refrigerator and left the freezer door open so the coils and the vents could thaw out. The cold air was not getting to the refrigerator section because of ice blocking the vents.

Have you been hearing a clicking noise coming from behind the unit? This is the first indication of a failed compressor relay. Pull the unit out and unplug it. Remove the back cover and go to the compressor. You will find a device on the side of the compressor that has the wires hooked to it. This is the compressor relay and overload. It may be under a black cap. Remove the cap to access it. It may have 2 pieces to it or it may just have the 2 pieces encased in a white and tan box. Remove this box and shake it. If it rattles like gravel in it then it is bad. If it is in 2 pieces then it will have a brown relay. This is the piece that will rattle if bad. The white and black piece with one wire is the overload. They most never go bad. Use this replacement part kit...8201786 and follow the detailed instructions included in the kit. Thanks for the question. Hope this helps.
