Question about Garden
This x520 j.d. mower stalls when I engage PTO for deck carb. has been cleaned new coils new pto clutch new belts new pulleys . I have checked all safety switches ,all blades turn by hand freely , also checked compression has 175 on left and 135 on rt. when engage pto tries to turn motor pulls down pops and backfires through carb then will die if I do not shut down PTO if it dies motor will start up . PLease Help can engage belts slowly by hand and mower works good.thanks papawpt
Sounds like a problem with the governor. Start it up. Don't engage the blades. Drive to a hill. Idle all the way down. Try driving up the hill. The motor should pick up when it slows while pulling up the hill. If it doesn't, the governor isn't working right.

check the kill switch and the wire it could be that a small piece of the covering came off and is grounding to the deck or frame there by killing the engine the jerkink of the mower maybe whats causing the wire to come into contact with metal..good luck

This is just a suggestion. Try pulling the choke out about one third to one half and then engage the PTO. Sometimes the air idle adjust screw port gets a tiny speck of debris in it. If with the choke partially out and the PTO engages the just grab a screwdriver and turn the air idle mixture screw counter clockwise a hair.

Testimonial: "Hit on the head with such a simple solution"
check the "kill switch" they are usually located in the seating area. it senses for pressure or seat angle and will kill the mower if nobody is sitting on the mower. Good Luck
