I have a newer Bostitch Air Compressor and it worked just fine a month ago and now we plug it in and the motor doesn't even turn on. And, no, it is not the outlet.

It is not uncommon for these compressor motors to "burn up". They are especially prone to overheating if a 14g or 16g extension cord is used to power it. Most of these do have a motor thermal protection button. Look carefully around the motor and motor mount frame. Of course, tracing the electric with a volt meter will confirm the location where the voltage terminates. The Auto/Off pressure switch is another possible fault. Taking the motor leads and powering them directly with 120v will confirm a motor problem. If this is an Oil Lubricated pump then double check by removing the back of the motor cover and turning the fan by hand. If unable to turn.. the pump may have froze up due to lack of lubrication. Usually a pipe wrench turning the exposed motor shaft will unlock the crankshaft and a high grade synthetic non-foaming motor oil in the crankcase will help keep it lubricated and it may contimue to work okay.

Hi,I have a travel trailer 37ft. Problem with my ac, the fan starts good but my compressor does not kick on. My next door neighbour says it's the compressor that is done. Could you help me?

Motor Trouble Cause Diagnostic Procedure Repair Procedure Electrical Power is Off Check that all service switches for the equipment are in the "on" position.
Check for voltage at the pump motor or pump controls. If no voltage is found, check for voltage at the electric panel.
If power is on to the building, check fuse or circuit breaker serving the electric motor that won't run.
Check for local reset button on the motor (popped out = off )
Check for other power reset or power off buttons such as an access door compartment safety switch that turns off power to the equipment (found on A/C blower compartment doors)
Turn on "off" switches.
Replace bad fuse. Reset circuit breaker; if necessary replace bad circuit breaker.
Let hot electric motor cool down, then push in its reset button.
Be sure all safety interlock switches such as on compartment doors are depressed and that the doors are securely shut. Replace a bad safety switch.

Blown fuse, tripped breaker Replace fuse or breaker - does the pump run and keep running normally? Be sure proper breaker or fuse size in ampacity is installed - ELECTRIC PANEL INSPECTION Low voltage to the motor Check with VOM at the pressure control switch or at the motor wiring Be sure the proper size of wire is used for the ampacity and length of circuit; Test for low voltage to the building. Loose, improper, or broken motor wire Check wiring against the motor installation manual diagram, check all connections for tightness, shorts, burns, damage Rewire or repair or replace wWhen a sealed compressor motor has "burned out" this means that the internal wiring of the motor has become irreparably damaged: the compressor motor windings may be burned and shorted together or shorted to the steel shell of the motor, or the windings may have burned and simply become "open" or disconnected. If the motor has burned out in either of these ways it needs to be replaced.

I have a leeson 5ghp air compressor motor i am connecting it to a puresor switch ther is a T1 a T2 and a P1 wire i need to know where the P1 wire gos

Pressure switches usually have two or four connections. All they are are the in and out terminals for the switch or switches that the pressure sensor activates. They are usually labeled to keep them separated between in and out but it doesn't make much difference to the motor.

The multipurpose pressure switch may have a common (C), normally open (NO) and a normally closed (NC) terminal, three screws to put wire on. If this is what yours has and you have a 120VAC system, you need to attach the "hot" wire to the common terminal and one lead from the motor to whichever other terminal has continuity to the C terminal when the pressure is low, if you don't have a meter, just hook it up and if it doesn't work right move the lead to the motor to the other one. Nothing will be connected to the other terminal. The Neutral power wire will go directly to the motor.

If you switch has four terminals (two switches inside) you can attach both the neutral and the hot to one set of terminals normally labeled L1 and L2. These terminals NEVER connect to each other through the switch, they always connect to the output terminals, normally labeled T1 and T2 or any other designations desired.

If you have a 220VAC motor, you still only have two leads to the motor and they connect the same way with a two switch, four terminal set up. You would connect the two hots to L1 and L2 and the two motor leads to T1 and T2 (if so labeled).

I turn on compressor starts working but it turns back of agian

If the motor circuit breaker is popping off as you state, it's either bad or the power supply is inadequate. It's not all that rare for the circuit breakers on electric motors to go bad. When they go bad they either won't reset or pop off at lower and lower amperages. Another cause could be that the motor is essentially trying to pull too much electricity through a line that can't handle it. This would be caused by using too many, to long or too small guage extension cords. Always plug the compressor into an outlet and run longer air lines than use extension cords. On some occasions if you are too far from the breaker box and the lines to the outlet are low guage you can get the same affect.

The a.c compressor works and the drier is sweating cold water outside the truck but HOT air comes out of the vents no matter the setting on the temperature control knob. Any ideas?

Make year and model engines size and country it was sold new in will help tell what kind of system you have, 60's modeels are different then 70's and so forth to the present. 90's and newer have electric air doors and it' possiblre that the cold air blend door motor is'nt working or stuck or fuse blowed. The blend door changes the temperture from hot to cold by dircting the air over the evaporater core or the heater core to get the dired temperture. Reaching up from under the dash with the truck running and the airconditioner on and the fan on ( not high) touch all the different motors till you find the one thats moving as you turn the control from hot to cold. if it's poping or grinding or you can't find any of them responding you need a new blend door motor. Working the other controls like the frst to reciculatre ( that motot will move as you turn this control on and off and the made door motor changes as you ask for defrost to floor to panel. The one that's not working needs changed. Most auto parts stores have them as they fail alot. thier les than 50 bucks some are as little as 25 but you did;nt state the year of your truck.

Hi i have an Ingersoll rand 80 gal, 7.5 hp, model #2475 air compressor and the electric motor is arcing when trying to run then blows the breaker. Any ideas? thanks

It sounds like either a problem with the brushes in the motor or the engine shaft is jammed. Have you on many previous occasions run the compressor on that circuit with no problems? It may be as simple as the breaker is not sufficient for the power draw of the compressor.

If you have had the unit for awhile and it has been run lots and the engine shaft spins easily when turned by hand (unplug first) then it may be an issue with the brushes on the electric motor. Take the engine apart and replace the brushes with new ones from an electric motor shop. Take pictures as you disassemble the unit so you will be able to refer to them when it comes time for reassembly.

If the motor shaft does not turn by hand, remove the belt that connects it to a compressor and try again. If this works, reconnect the power and see if the electric motor now works with power on and the belt off. If the motor works and there is no short to throw the breaker, then your compressor is in need of a rebuild and that will cost money and time.

What size compressor can I run

You would need 10 times the watts it takes to run electric air compressor,the start up takes a lot more amps to get it going ,then it will level off to the amps,what ever they are.That is the problem,getting it to power up,then it is fine,so you are looking at about 8000 watt gen.

Coleman Electric Cooler doesn't stay cold

the most common problem is that one or both cooling fans has failed. If you have the newer version, you can get replacement fans anywhere computer parts are sold
