Replace the seat micro switch. Also make sure the block connector is fully pushed home on the micro switch.

SOURCE: Just had a Poulan 12.5 hp 38 in. mower delivered

Bob.... I know you don't want to hear this but I would straight up return it. There is no way you should have to troubleshoot something that expensive. You could have a broken governor spring. BUT this should be a HOME DEPOT problem and not yours.
There are a couple of simple things... like checking that the fuel selector is all the way on and that the fuel filter is not clogged with old gas. One mor ething is make sure it is fully serviced with oil... the LOW Oil level sensor could be shutting off the engine BUT from your symptom description that does not sound like the problem.

Other than that I am dead serious.. Talk to the Home Depot Manager and return it / Exchange it. OR work out a deal where HOME DEPOT arranges for on site warranty repair within 10 days.

I agree it is the seat switch. This switch will let you start the mower as long as it is in neutral, the brake is set and the mower blades are not engaged. I think it is just two wires, maybe you can jump them together and see if it runs.

Was mowing leaves and mower stalled. It started right back up but now I can't put it into any gears or engage blades without it stalling

check to see if there is anything that may be stopping the safety switches from working properly. if it is all clean check to see if there is a bad safety switch.

Ride on mower can ride around but whe engage fanbelt for cutter motor stall no power but very thing does turn easy with hand

Sounds like your mower deck safety switch is is located near the end of the handle that engages the mower deck..try unhooking it and bypassing it with a wire or heavy paper clip...then try mowing if it mows that is your problem..the mower deck will, operate that way but is a safety need to get it replace,,easy to do yourself..good luck.

Poulan mower stalls when I released the brake....also stalls when I try to engage the mowing blades....any suggestions? thanks, Sonya

Hi, there is a switch under the seat that is broken or faulty which is basically telling the engine that no one is on the seat, hence the stalling issue. Fix or replace the switch and you will be mowing in no time. Hope this helps, regards Phil.

Engine stalls when clutch/brake pedal is released

Under the seat, there is a operator presence switch, if this switch fails, the mower will shut off when the brake is released, or put in any gear.
