Nikon D3000 flash wont stay closed due to broken clip.

My brother-in-law was using my camera and pried the flash open instead of pushing the button which broke the clip that keeps it closed. How do I fix it?

Unfortunately Nikon stopped selling parts on July 13th, 2012. I checked and the part you need is not currently for sale on Ebay so you best hope is to call local repair shops and hope one has either the part still in stock or a salvage top cover they can pull the part off of. The other choice is to send the camera to Nikon and eat a $200 repair bill.

If you are annoyed by Nikon's actions I would strongly suggest you email the president of the company to express your displeasure. Only by having a lot of customer complaints will Nikon maybe recind their ridiculous policy.

Vivitar 1900 on nikon d3000

NO!

The trigger voltage of the Vivitar 1900 is too high for the Nikon D3000. Using it without electrically isolating the units will fry the camera.

My flash wont pop up and it makes a clicking sound and when it does finally pop up it the flash wont go off please help is it broken or is there somthing i can do to fix it

Hi tara shea, not broken.
If may be that the release magnet is locked
check the hook that holds the lamp unit that is supposed to return by the action of thespring, try moving it gently toward the front of the camera.
If your camera had a fall or a blow that can be taken out of the return spring anchorhook.

The flash on my Nikon d3000 won't pop up, and I'm not given the option to change the setting in the camera- it's set at no flash, with no other options

which option do you choose? AUTO, S, P, A, or M?
you can easily make the flash popped at S, P, A, M option by pressing the button near the lens, indicates with FLASH icon

I have a new D3000 and a nikon SB-600 flash. I

From the Nikon site, do you have one of these flash units.
Support for the Nikon Creative Lighting System when using SB-900, SB-600, or SB-400 Speedlights, or the SU-800 Wireless Speedlight Commander
If so You set the flash mode to "comander" the pop up flash must be UP

This Video by Nikon shows how but you will have to read the manual to get a full description go to the flash section http://www.nikondigitutor.com/eng/d300s/index.html

Then look at them all :)

Nikon d40

If the camera is in auto mode, the flash opens anytime the camera feels that it cannot take the picture with only ambient light. You can overcome this by closing the flash once the camera opens it or using a manual mode. In manual mode, the flash opens only if you press the flash button on the left side of the flash housing.

Nikon coolpix s210 Not taking pictures

It sounds like you should try a new set of batteries in the camera. I have a similar camera and the flash is the first to go when the batteries are dying.

I hope this helps,

Nikon d 80 flash will not pop up while in auto mode

The flash up button is located on the left hand side of the camera right near the top.   You should use this button to pop up the flash. Prying it up could/has broken this button.
Also, depending on what setting you are using, the flash doesn't always pop up automatically.   Check to see what mode you are in, on the round dial on the left -- ie  Auto, Portrait, Manual, etc.   I can move sometimes without your knowledge, and this may be the problem.

Flash won't open on the d40

The flash on D series doesn't always open by itself or when you push the button, as part of the design. If you are in manual mode the flash should open when you push the button, but when in Auto, if there is enough light present for the flash to stay closed, even if you push the flash button, I don't think it will open.

In Auto mode, try pointing the camera at something dark or holding your hand up in front of it and push the shutter button halfway down to see if the flash opens. If not, you will probably have to take it in to be repaired.
