How to replace a heater core

Removal & Installation
CAUTION When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the cooling system.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  3. If equipped, remove the rear lateral transaxle strut mount.
  4. Disconnect the drain tube from the heater case.
  5. Detach the heater hoses from the heater core.
  6. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  7. Remove the right and left sound insulators.
  8. Unfasten the steering column opening filler. Disconnect the heater outlet deflector (floor air outlet duct).
