SOURCE: TOSHIBA FLAT SCREEN TV has black screen but power light is on!?

Try resetting the TV by leaving it unplugged for an hour.
Plug it back in and check to see if it works normally.
If that doesn't work, rule out the Directv box by pressing the reset button near the access card. The box could be putting out a signal that doesn't have video or audio.
If everything fails, have the tech man come back to check everything that he did before you use the warranty on the TV.

Try a reset to this set and check. If it do not help you, contact any service technician. There are two types of reset to TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset; and the other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight; will be better. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. My toshiba flatscreen says retail unlock on it an it wont do nothyn.. how i fix it without original remote

You can reset and eliminate the lock on some televisions without the remote.. Hold the power button for five seconds. The television will automatically restart. If the lock is still on, unplug the television and remove the battery from the back panel of the television. Wait several hours before reconnecting the plug and reattaching the battery.

You say you have a Universal remote. If you have not done so yet use the procedures that came with your remote to install it on your Toshiba. After using the install procedures you should at least be able to power on and off the TV.

power the TV on and then do the following:

TOSHIBA specific advertisements or "Retail Lock" at anytime when operating, perform the following procedure:

  3. Resetting Factory Defaults:
To reset all settings and channels to their factory default values:
1 Press the MENU button and open the Installation menu.
2 Highlight Reset TV, and then press the ENTER button.
3 Enter your PIN code (If a PIN code has been set).
4 A con?rmation screen appears. Select Yes, and press the ENTER button. The TV will turn off automatically.
Then do the following:
  1. Power on the TV. You will be prompted to perform the first time setup.
  2. Be sure to set the Location option to Home.
  3. Continue with the first time setup.
The "Retail Lock" should be disabled and you can now use all the functions of the TV.

hope that helps

Either the connector on the set is bad or something is burned out. Try connecting to a tv or ext antenna and see what happens.
