Question about Dell 942 All-In-One InkJet Printer
I upgraded to Windows Vista about a month ago. I had to reinstall my printers drivers. Ever since I haven't been able to use my printer. It shows that it is ready, but it says that there in no communication available between my computer and printer. I checked the USB cable and it is fine and was plugged in. I also unplugged the power source and restarting my computer. Nothing has worked. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Hey guys... nothing's wrong with Dell, It's vista that sucks. Not only printers, but many devices have communication problems with Vista. Solution is easy one. Go to support website of Dell and download a patch/upgrade listed in drivers. disconect the printer from computer, run that patch, it will cleanup the previous drivers. Then download drivers from website and run the setup. On setup screen, again click on uninstall option. Restart the computer and run the setup again with USB cable unplugged. Connect it when, printer asks you to. There u go... say Dell is great!

I am having the same exact problem with XP machine. I seem to be able to track it back to a MS upgrade in September. I worked through a solution by deleting both the printer and the drivers from the server settings and reinstalling. I just got another set of "upgrades" last week from MS and the same is happening again but thid time I have deleted and reinstalled a dozen times and no luck. Plug and play can see the printer and it installs normally but when I print out the test page I get an instant communication error and troubleshooting led me in circles.

I'm curious as to whether or not your USB bus drivers were loaded for Vista. Check it out in device manager. Good Luck
