Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Need to restore my laptop.

Well the laptop is used for downloading and has Utorrent, I don't know if that is the problem as there is plenty of problems on the laptop itself. It runs slow too. I want to get it back to factory settings and wipe everything on the computer out. Just like it was when I got it.

If the units are running slow, you can do some maintenance on them to speed them up.

First, run defragmenter on both units.(in Safe mode)

Download ScrubXP which will automatically clear your temp, cookies and TIF files.

Download CCleaner and run it.

Run your Anti-virus program: download the free version of AVG. (Great virus protection.)

Other programs to use are SpyBlaster and Winpatrol, all of which are free.
This should help, if you feel that you need to format and restore the units, youcan do so. But try this first.

Restart into safe mode by pressing F8 while it's booting. You should be able to run system restore from here, even uninstall uTorrent.

How to remove ads from Utorrent

We all are familiar with torrents and we use them to download various contents using it.

µTorrent is a freeware, ad-supported, proprietaryBitTorrent clientowned and developed by BitTorrent, Inc.

uTorrent has recently introduced sponsored ads from version 3 of its torrent applications. What many people don't realize is that these ads are optional and can be disabled in the preferences, so just follow these few steps and you will be able to enjoy the latest version of uTorrent, without those ads! This method will also work for BitTorrent users.

Follow the steps in the link:

Emachines c2881 unable to upgrade to sp2

Yeah, but you may not care for it.

I, personally abhor the automated feature of Service Packs.
I would rather download Manually, and see what I'm getting.

Takes longer?

Cramming junk down my throat that I don't want, don't need, and it is just filling good space I need on my harddrive?

Uh, no.

What to download, there's so much stuff, and I don't know what I'm looking at?
Just download the basics.

Okay, download manually one at a time. When you can't boot your computer, Yep, that one has got to go.

Acer, (Excuse me, I mean eMachines), wants how MUCH?
You told them you could buy a better, used, computer, for that much.

(I know. I know. Be nice. There's always time to be bad. Lol!)

Lemme see. What could Acer have done for 150 bucks.
Motherboard? Ummm. Harddrive and new genuine copy of Windows XP? Ummmm.

They were going to pick your computer apart, to see what the problem was.

You stated " I even tried not using the restore cd but a copy of XP again...."

Meaning a;
1) NEW genuine copy of Windows XP?
2) Genuine copy of Windows XP from another computer?
What are we talkin' about here?

I want to know what the original problem was? Why were you using the Restoration Disk in the first place?

Post back in a Comment.

How do i reset my laptop

Then, RESTORE COMPUTER TO AN EARLIER TIME....Choose any date, and your computer will be restored to exactly the way it was on that date (except your history will still be maintained I believe - read the stuff to the left when you get to System Restore).

This can be affected if very little memory was allotted to "remembering" the data for Restore. But it is not likely that this would have been altered, and normally they come with plenty of memory allotted for Restore Function. (This is a function that users can set up.)

Anyway, once you get to the SYSTEM RESTORE, just follow the directions from there.

Oh, my directions are for windows XP. All other operating systems have this function, though. But you know how Microsoft is, keep moving stuff around. So if you have windows 7 or something, and it seems they've changed how to get to System Restore, just look around. It's there, somewhere.
I hope this is helpful. Please give me a click it it is. :-)

Ok, I've got a new one here... I recently aquired

Hey, let me start by saying that uTorrent is a program mainly used for illegally downloading files to your computer, which is never a good idea. That's not to say that it is always illegal, just the only times I've heard of people doing it, was for illegal use, which you should talk over with your friend. It is always a bad idea to pirate software over the internet. Now, on to my assistance.
If the files you downloaded are taking up too much space, than here is what you can do to delete them. First, quit uTorrent. On a Mac, closing a program is not the same as quitting it, so here is how you quit. Go down to your dock (the little bar at the bottom, or the side of your screen with shortcuts to all of your applications) and select uTorrent (the green circle with the silver outline and the white "u" in the middle). The grey status bar at the top of your screen should show an apple logo, followed by "uTorrent, File, etc." If it says a different program name in the place of where "uTorrent" should be, try double clicking the uTorrent logo again. After that, hold down the "command" key (the key on either the left or the right of the spacebar) and the "q" key. Let go after a second. Once you have quit Utorrent, open finder, (the half blue, half white, square face on the left side of your dock) than hold the option key, the command key, and the L key. This should open your downloads folder. Select the files you wish do delete, and drag them to the trash, (the waste basket on the right side of your dock) than open the trash and click the empty button. These files are now permanently deleted from your computer. I would like to give you more help as far as what to do with the files you do want, but I have to know what they are. Email me at if you need more help.

I need to restore my computer to the factory settings. I have an HP PavillionDV5000 with Windows XP. When I open PC Recovery and select "PC Recovery", the computer automatically shuts down and...

After you've used your laptop for an extended period of time its hard drive may become filled with files you don't want or even infected with malicious virus programs downloaded from the Internet. If you don't want to go through the folders on your laptop and manually delete each unnecessary file you can restore the computer to its original factory settings instead. Restoring a laptop wipes out any existing data and entirely reinstalls the operating system.

1.Place the operating system recovery CD that came with your computer into the CD or DVD drive. Restart the computer.
2.Wait for the computer manufacturer's logo to pop up on the screen. Press the keyboard key that brings up the recovery menu, which is usually "F2," "F8," or "Ctrl" and "F11" pressed simultaneously.
3.Select the specific language you want the operating system to use from the menu at the top of the screen. Select "Next."
4.Choose the option labeled "PC Restore," "Repair Your Computer" or something similar. Click "Next."
5.Select "Restore" and then click "Enter" to start the process. Click "Restart" once the process has ended to boot the restored computer to its operating system.
