Question about Sony DCR-VX2000 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Open Question

No playback or timecode only blue screen

Hi, I have a vx2000 camera that I purchased 11 years back. I haven't used the camera that much so it remained pretty new with out any problems until recently I started getting issues related to dirty head/mechanism (i.e. glitches, horizontal lines and audio break during the playback to the point where FCP won't recognize may camera no more). I gave the whole mechanism (not the drumhead) a good clean following the DIY youtube instruction. But since then, whenever I try to play my recording the screen just stays on the blue screen. I get all the displays apart from the timecode. The timecode doesn't run and stays on -:--:-- though it shows the remaining time on the tape. Unlike in other posts, the blue screen stays on even during the rewind or FF. Is there any DIY solution to this? I can't really afford a professional help at the moment and I need to use my cam asap. Thank you for your help!

SOURCE: my sony ccd-trv218e hi-8 video camera shows blue

Definitely sounds like a dirty video head or a bad video head. You are headed in the right direction with the cleaning tape but you may not be able to get it thoroughly with the cleaning tape. You can try a q-tip dipped in alcohol and try to cleaned the video heads on the drum assembly yourself, just kinda soak the heads with the alcohol and gentle scrub the heads if the heads are clogged this may help. If it doesnt then you may need a drum assy. I have researched it for you and the part number is "A7048988A" from partstore.com. I hope this helps.

How to play tapes not recorded by Sony Handycam DCR-TRV130 Digital-8 Digital Camcorder

It is my understanding that the camera won't playback those formats, timecode or not. There are VCR type units for the HI8 and other formats. They should be cheap on eBay now...

Why wont my dcr-vx2000 record? The light comes on but it will not record. All it plays back is a blue screen.

Really sounds like it just needs to be cleaned. Use denatured alcohol , cleaning sticks and swabs . sticks on the heads and never go up and down on the heads or you will break them . dry completely with compressed air before use. Larry's Electronics ledtiles@hotmail.com

No playback pics. Blue screen. Can't record.Used x2 since service.

I just made contact with a service tech who seems very competent and who won me over. Have problem with video and audio dropout similiar to dirty heads on a 10 year old DCR-VX2000 but which is a larger problem attributed to worn parts which will need replacement. Do not know how old your unit is, but will share name of person/company if you wish. Only thing that worries me is if you by chance had had yours repaired by them!!! They are a Southern California company.

Tapes won't Playback in other deivice

Hello! If the recorded tapes playback ok on the camera and not ok on another devices, you need to readjust the playback on this camera using a tape which playbacks fine on the other devices. This means that is a small difference on the tape transport. So when the supply and takeup post rollers readjusted and the audio and video playback are good, then your camera is fine.
