Trivets are made of temperature regulating materials which prevent the burning or ruining of the surface where the dish/pan/pot is placed. A wet towel, instead, will easily transfer heat thru the water in it and heat up very quickly at contact with a hot surface or object, consequently burning anything it touches. Never grab a hot pot or dish from the oven with a wet towel!

Make your own trivet

Sick of boring, factory-made trivets cluttering your dinner table?
Here are a few ideas for homemade trivets, easy to make and pretty to look at.

Stone trivet:
What you need:
- An old carpet (you can also use some felt if you want, but a carpet is more rigid)
- Superglue
- A cutter
- Flat stones
Instructions:
Use the cutter to cut the old carpet into pieces. If you want a classic trivet you can cut out round pieces, but you can take any shape you want.

Before you apply glue to the stones it’s best to wash them and get as much dirt off of them as possible. If the surface is clean they will stick better.

Put some superglue on the first stone. I like to use plenty of glue to make sure it stays in its place. Stick the first stone on the middle of the carpet and work your way to the outside.
When you reach the outside of the carpet, let the stones stick out of the edge a little bit. It looks better because you don’t see the carpet underneath.
Let everything dry for a couple of hours and your home-made stone trivet is ready for use! Handle with care, because stones that didn’t adhere well might fall off.

Old cloths braided trivet:
If you still own old colorful kitchen cloths (or even not colored, since you can dye them yourself) get ready to make pretty braided trivets.
Saw the tip of three long stripes of cloth and braid them neatly. Then start rolling the braid around itself so to create a spiral, and each round saw the sides of the two touching braids. This picture will give you a better idea:

Magazine roll trivet:
Take old magazines or colorful papers and glue three or four papers one over the other.
When the glue is dry cut them in stripes and roll them, gluing them in crucial places but making sure that the glue doesn\'t show on the top, bottom or side of the roll, and then keeping them together with a string.
When all rolls are dry you can either tie them all with strings to one another or glue them so to make a nice and colorful trivet
This is what it should look like in the end:

Laptop or Monitor Cleaning

LCD and plasma screens have a anti-glare coating or anti-reflective coating. This is so any bright light doesn't reflect and wash out the picture. It does help but it also makes cleaning the screen a bit of a problem.

As this is a coating on glass it is actually possible to clean t off by using the wrong cleaner. There are great glass cleaners out there but most are chemically based and too aggressive. In other words they attack the coating.

So what do you use? Paper towels, a drop of dish washing or liquid soap and water. And you need to use a bit of a technique or you will see smears or smudges on the screen.

You need to get two sheets of paper towels. One is your dry wipe. Wet one with water. Then add a drop of liquid soap or detergent. Give it a couple of gentle squeezes to distribute the soap. Then give it a bit harder one to get rid of excess water. Depending on the coating you may want a second piece that has only water and just damp not wet.

Now we clean the screen. First take the soapy towel and wipe down the screen getting it wet. You don't want running water just enough to wet the screen. If you have the soap right you will just see the odd bubble. Once you have the screen wet, wait about 30 seconds and now scrub it using the soapy towel with a circular motion. If there is anything on the screen it should come off. If something is stubborn just keep scrubbing it or use a fingernail to scratch it off and wipe with the soapy after.

Now we need to get the soap off. If the screen dries and has streaks you may need to use the wet un-soaped towel to wipe/rinse of the soap before drying. To dry the screen we want to use the dry towel and use large circular motions. Go over it once and turn it over so the dry side is being used. Keep using those big round motions and at the same time ease up of how hard you push the towel. The idea is to have little pressure on the towel as you finish. That's the trick to getting it streak free.

This takes a minute to do but lets you safely clean your display without damaging the coatings. It also works on any glass surface.

Purchased the Maytag MMV3180 (SS) microwave last week. It doesn't matter what I cook, when cooking is finished there is moisture inside the oven. The door is steamed up, and water is dripping off the...

I would say quite normal. Ensure that the door is left open for a while when you have finished, that will allow the moisture to disperse.
I cut down alot on the steam by using kitchen paper towel over the food. The towel gets wet instead!
Don't use recycled paper towel unless it states suitable for microwave use as there may be plastics and metals in those.

Ink levels show emptry.

Need one plastic plate that you don't care much about, or a plastic disposable plate.
Tear off one section from a paper towel roll and roll it up into about a 1-inch diameter roll.
Flatten the roll
Soak the flattened roll in warm water
Lay the flattened roll down on the plate
Place the nozzle area of the ink cartridge directly against the wet paper towel
Fold the flattened roll as needed to support the ink cartridge so it stands upright.

The trick here is to make sure the cartridge is supported upright so the nozzles come in full contact with the wet towel surface.
The wet towel acts as a wick to soften and draw out the ink.
After awhile, you shoudl see a kaleidoscope of colors on the paper towel. This indicates the nozzles have been opened up and the ink is flowing. Try to print and see what happens.
Repeat as needed.

Side by side leaking water from under freezer side

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back/bottom of freezer..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curatain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the fridge is because the water has been leaking into the freezer and down the vent into the fridge instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you need any further assistance.
