By sealing cracks and leaks around the house you save energy, reinforce both house and appliances, prevent bigger repairs, therefore saving money, and you increase the lifetime of appliances, which decreases the amount of waste and pollution

Someone told me to put ge silicone sealant over freshly cured silicone caulking to give it a smooth look before painting. now i have a real mess. sealant won't cure what do i have to do

Hey Lorrie,
I am sorry someone gave you this info.. You will and probably have to remove ALL/BOTH the caulking and silicon and then redo the caulking all together. You can use your finger to smooth the caulking.. and you can paint over it when its dry,,,

How do i caulk my bathtub

get caulk and a caulk gun at the local hardware or Walmart. Load the caulk tube into the tray part of the caulk gun, snip the end of the tube. push on the rear of the tube and slowly lay a bead of caulk around the area of the tub needing caulk.

Can this be adjusted / setup for a single cartridge

Buy a single tube caulking gun, you will have more accuracy and less weight, you can buy a good cheap model for about $10 at Home Hardware..

Hole in wall

The hole was probably put there for a dyrer vent, which is very important to have. They allow heated moisture vapor to be expelled outside and helps keep excess moisture out ot the home. If this is the case, any home improvement outlet will have the stationary wall plates and the outside flap mechanism. The flap shuts when not in use and keeps outside elements out of your dryer......including critters. If your dryer is vented already, just cover the inside of the old hole with a piece of panelling, insulate the hole space, and attach a metal cover over the outside of the hloe. Make sure you seal the outside with caulk or another sealer.

Video on calking tub to floor

I would suggest using 'relief cuts' in the strip so you can make the bend, and then continue -- though using a caulk gun would be better. With standard caulk you can just use your finger and a little water to leave a nice finish. I believe you will find it cheaper as well -- a tube of caulk is around 2 or 3 dollars -- and a caulk gun is a dollar or so.

3 piece tub needs to re-caulked. Is this a do it yourself project?

Are you talking about caulking around all sorts of small tiles, or is yours a one piece wall unit that only has caulking around the edge of the tub and the nozzels? If it is the latter, you simply remove the old and add new. If it is all the old tile caulking then If you are not good at handyman (handywoman) things, then you should call a professional. Most of the home outfitting places have help available to you if you wish to DIY the job. You should visit a place like Home Depot, Lowes, etc. for their free advice and a lot of them offer classes in home repair things.

My newly tiled shower(app.2 yrs. old) needs to be reclaulked. The caulk used has broken down & looks like it melted onto the floor?? I would like to know what the best caulk is for re-caulking this...

You will need to clean as much of the old caulking from joints that you can, After scraping old caulking out then wash with cleaner such as soft scrub and rinse thororghly. Let dry and wipe any residue with clean cloth.
The best all around tub and tile caulk and adhesive that I've found is called polyseamseal. It comes in almond which is pretty much the same as other caulks bone or beige. It applies easily and you can wipe off excess with fingertip as it is a latex base product.
What I do is apply as thin a bead as you need and wipe with damp fingertip, cleaning excess from fingers often. Continue wiping till you are satisfied with joint. VERY IMPORTANT: Keep completly dry for 24 hours. It will skin over in a couple of hours but it really needs the full drying time.
After it is dry there will be a light film around joint, use damp rag to wipe this film clean. It's not unusual for it to have a slight film on it more than once so don't worry about it.
I have been using this product for 30 years and if used right it has always made my customers happy. I hope this helps you. Thanks
