Dryer will not heat

We just got this Whirlpool wed5521sq0 dryer. When hooked up the timer will not work and it will not produce any heat. Can anyone help me......

  • ncff6 Mar 29, 2009

Yes it does spin. The 220 is reading 120 on one leg and 120 on the second leg, I checked that when hooking it up. Also I have noticed that the timer does not work.

  • ncff6 Mar 30, 2009

The model number is wed5521sq0. I will look for the tech sheet and see what I can find.

Does it turn or spin? Also make sure you have 220v hooked up right. I know that sounds very simple but the heater works on 1/2 of the 220 and the motor on the other half. Let me know if you need anything else.

Hmmm, the only other thing that goes wrong is a thermal fuse but that usually doesn't effect the timer and since it's new, I'm not sure. There should be a tech sheet hid in there some where. What is the model number found inside the door?

  • Anonymous Mar 31, 2009

About all I can think of is a thermal fuse #7 & #15 on the diagram link on the bottom here. Do you have a way to continuity check those?

.Whirlpool electric dryer will not work.

If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. Here is the door switch.

Whirlpool electric dryer - looks like a WED5200T but no model number on the unit. The drum turns and air blows from the vent, but the timer has stopped working and there is no heat.

you have a white strip on the back of your dryer un plug your dryer first.....then un plug the strip and hook the two wires together that will allow the heat to start again.....the timer shouldnt have anything to do with the heat....turn it on and put your ear to the knob and you should here a clock sound if not your timer is bad

When u turn on my gas whirlpool dryer it runs as normal. when u check on it a little later (on automatic dry) the timer has not moved, and the dryer has quit producing heat

Hi, the timer control the heating commands and, if its not moving(rotating), this will confirm timer failuer. replace it asap.

Gas dryer does not provide heat or air

If you don't have heat the timer will not advance in auto dry. The first thing to check is the glow bar ignitor part number 279311.
