Question about Compaq Presario 1800 Notebook
Open "my computer" and try to open the CD or DVD from there by double clicking it, or right clicking and selecting "open". If this works, you have merely turned off the "autorun" feature. If you need help to turn this back on, please ask again. If no luck, right click on "my computer" and select "properties", select the "hardware" tab and select "device manager". you should be able to see your dvd drive. right click on it and select properties and post back what it says. All the above assumes windows XP, but should be similar for others.
