Question about Washing Machines
We bought a used kenmore front load washer and dryer, model #402.89032010. my brother inlaw was here to help unload. we discover we don't have an outlet to plug the dryer cord in but rather the wire was just direct. He said he could make that work so we let him try. Stupid idea!!!! He didn't hook up the wires correctly,, he turned the power button on, the dryer turned on but then shut off he turned it on again it made a loud noise and got really hot, bad smelling and died. We haven't been able to turn the dryer on since. How do we determine if we fried the motor or not? Is it worth replacing? Please help!!

was the machine working when you bought it? if there's 240 available, then a problem is in the machine NOT your wiring. both motors, the dryer and wash motor may be 240 volts OR 120 volts - a hot leg to ground. the feeder should be a four wire because the white is the neutral and the ground an equipment ground. at the panelbox both the equip gnd and white terminate at the neutral bus.

I have a kenmore front load washer, model: 417 42042100
It makes loud noise and becomes louder during the spin cycle.
The drum is loose when I inspected through the front door.
My problem is how to open the cabinet and replace any broken parts.

I had the same problem and it went on few months. Then the final spin didn't work and I could smell something buring. Called AHS and they sent a tech, who said it was the bearing. Cost about $350. to fix. Will be replacing the washer soon, I don't think we paid too much more than this at the scratch and dent place.

Sounds like motor is bad. See if you can find the 2 main wire leads on the motor and hook up directly to see if you can get it to work.
