This is usually a bad door swithc or loose or broken door switch mount.

SOURCE: Microwave light, turntable, and fan run after the door closes

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or occasionally by a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

SOURCE: Advantium 120 fan and tray keep running

Looking at the service manual here, I'd bet that relay number RY6 is shorted on the "sub PC" relay circuit board, or its driver transistor on the main "smart" board is shorted.

d1a9f54.jpg
Unless your technician does component-level repair, he'll probably want to just sell you a new sub board, or main ("smart") board, or both.

They list for $64.78 and $109.83 respectively here. Hard to tell what they'll mark them up to.

Then add about $150-200 for the labor.

On the other hand, we regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week with a one-year guarantee.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

Or you can tell your technician about our services.

SOURCE: I have a GE over-the-range

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout (TCO) / thermal fuse on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the magnetron thermostat to open.

Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

When checking TCOs or thermostats, if it has a hood fan thermostat, that should read open, as opposed to the others, which should read closed.

So don't let that fool you.

The TCOs you need to be concerned usually with have thick black or white wires only.

If the cavity thermostat needs to be checked or replaced you'll need to pull the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead several seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If it goes dead or blows the breaker (or GFI) when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or a loose fuse holder, or even an intermittent fuse.

You should do a continuity test on the fuse while it's in the holder (with the microwave unplugged, of course) then turn the fuse by hand or take it out and put it back in, then test it again.

If you remove the fuse, then press the meter leads against the ends, it can allow internal contact to be made and make a bad fuse appear to be good.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

SOURCE: model JVM1443 fan runs all the time when unit is

The top door switch (door sensing switch) is defective, or its mount is loose or broken.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

If the switch mount is broken, it's usually more economical and safer to add a dab or two of hot glue to the mount to secure the switch. Let it cool for about 30 minutes before using.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

Magic chef microwave runs backwards with door closed and no time set - works normally when time is set and door is closed - any ideas?

Probably a bad door switch or door switch mount. See help file here.

It's normal for a microwave turntable to run either direction at random. That's common in such AC motors.

I have model # JVM1430WD002. Both the under light & ventilation fan are not working. When I press the button, I can hear a click but nothing comes on.

Sounds to me like you main control board is failing. The relays on the board that control the light and fan are closing but the points in the relay are probably burnt and not making contact. You will probably need to replace the main control board. Hope that helps.

It will tell you where each one is located and what it's called, and should have the part numbers.

Three of them should read normally closed and one should read open.
