Question about Hayward 100,000 Btu Heater For Ag Pool And Spa H100id1

1 Answer

My Hayward heater turns on, then I can hear the ignition start and smell the gas, but it never lights. The air coming out of the side vent stays cold and I can occasionally smell the natural gas. Why is it not lighting?

SOURCE: Hayward Heatmaster will not light

Also if the filter is heavy with dirt, try recycling the filtering element, (sand od Diatomea sand) add new for a fresh start, this use to solve my problem.

SOURCE: hayward h100ID ignitor not starting

There are many different things it could be with the fan comming on that means the heater is trying to fire. Make sure gas supply is on first of all. Depending on the gas line run you may have to try several times of turning on and off the heater to reprome the line. If no luck with that the next step is the igniter follow the small tube comming off the gas valve and folliw it to the burner tray try poking a small peice of wire through it from a wire brush it probally is plugged. Heater should fire after that.

SOURCE: Heater won't stay lit

On your main gas manifold you have orfaces that screw into it at each burner. Remove these and see if their are small spider webs in them. They will look like little lint balls. They can keep your main burner from getting gas and in turn keep the heater from sensing flame. The pilot lights and the heater starts but no flame at the main will shut it rite down. See if this helps.

Why won't my Hayward H series heater ignite

Not much info to go by here Patty.
A gas fired heater needs spark and fuel to ignite. We need to start by to determining which is missing.
The H series has seen a few progressions. Does yours have no lights, 3 lights, or a lcd display? Propane or natural gas? Standing pilot or spark ignition?
Do any lights or display come on? Do you hear any clicking?

My hayward swimpro abg100 powers on but nothing happens. I can hear a buzz coming from it but it does not ignite or anything. What can I do?

Warranty status? Probably gas control valve and its connections to the "buzz" ignitor system. Gas is not a DIY thing!

Heater wont light, seems like all the safety switches have been met,has spark but dosen't seem to be getting propane

About when the sparking starts you should hear a louder snap that should open the gas valve. If you hear this and if there is gas pressure the spark gap is in the correct location it will light (you should also smell gas). On the other hand if any of these things aren't right it won't light. There is a plug on the incoming side of the valve that can be loosened to tell if there is gas available. If you leak enough gas to purge the gas line then that will eliminate a possible air problem. Make sure there is no source of ignition anywhere near during the purging process. Once the plug is closed tightly and you have waited 5 minutes you can try again. If you can't hear the valve come on then you can use a volt/ohm meter to measure the voltage going to the coil of the gas valve. When the ignitor is sparking there should be 115 VAC between these two wires. If you have further questions I should be able to answer them.

We had to switch propane tanks and run more copper tubing, our old tank ran empty. We are trying to relight heaters but they won't light. Is there something we need to do to the heater so they will...

yes - your husband is right, there is a auto cut off on the regulator itself. there is a chance that the cut off has failed. you can check this by simply undoing the gas line that leaves the regulator and cracking open the valve and see ( hear/smell ) if gas is coming out,, if gas is coming out then the cut off is working and the problem is down the line somewhere ( like another valve right at the heater ) ---... if you hear no gas coming out then the cut off is bad and you will need to replace the regulator with a new one.
also check for the smell and sound of gas at the heater while you are trying to light it -- ( NOTE: don't hold the gas button down to long if you do hear/smell gas and it is not lighting , because as soon as it does start it will flash in a BIG fire ball,,, between testings -- always let it air out some and then try again ) --- if the igniter is not lighting the fuel then use a lighter or a propane torch to get it going,, I have seen the thermo coupler go bad on the units and that will only allow the flow of gas during ' pilot ' light mode but will go out right away when you move the switch to ' ON '. ( just food for thought ).
stay warm out there ---

Green light comes on , can smell gas and hear buzzing from igniter but shuts down after 3 seconds and green light goes out

Make sure you have no soot build up on your ignitor. It will conduct elect so you can hear a buzz instead of a clear spark. Without a clean spark it wont fire and for safty it shuts down to keep gas from building up in the cabnit.
