Points and condenser for XL 101 Homelite

I am trying to fix/repair my dads old xl101 chainsaw. I have bought a new set of points and a condenser for it. The problem I have is it has been taken apart and I have no idea how these wires are connected. I cannot find online a wiring diagram of how I should connect everything. So I am hoping someone can either instruct me or provide some kind of documentation on how to do this.

SOURCE: IGNITION PROBLEM

Give Sam a call @ Hawkins and Milnor in Selbina Mo. Have you UT number handy, and on some homlites they used Wico ignition and some used Prestolite. The UT number should clear that up. They will have either set on hand and get them right out. Great people to work with.

SOURCE: Need to find contact breaker

Hi marie hourig...

Set your gap between .18 and .20...if you do not have a feeler gauge to get the clearance right, then you can use a paper match book cover...it is approximatly the same thickness as you need.

This could be a few things, either the idle speed of the engine is too high, or the clutch springs has become weal or has broken, or the sprockey bearing is dry and requires lubricating

Hi, I have an XL-12 that I bought new in 1971. It runs great, lots of power I am not one to look for trouble, I am curious how I might determine if the saw has points and condenser ignition or solid...

I believe that this machine uses solid state ignition, but has two elements--one is a trigger/charger coil and the other is the ignition coil. Like you said, if it ain't broke---. Parts for this are spendy--hope it outlasts the engine.

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You don’t have to bend up the electrode. HTH

IGNITION PROBLEM

You may have a difficult time finding those. I would go to the local mower shop and get an electronic ignition module and replace it with that. It will probably cost less than the points and condenser and make the saw more reliable too.

Please rate if this helps-
