You need to install an interface card in your computer, and it does come with the software. You need a card that has the video Input (AUX). The Hauppauge Win TV HVR-1600 is a Plug-in card with TV and Video Input.

Vivitar DVR 550 was a well known model in the UK. but the company Sakar bought the Vivitar comapany out. However, the Vivitar site still exists, but not much support for the DVR 550 is provided. I would recommend e-amiling them by visiting www.vivitar.com
It's for a different model, but it works the same.
In a nutshell, when the "AV/C Tuner" driver request comes up, just cancel the install. Then, it will want an "AV/C Tape Recorder/Player" driver. It "should" install automatically and be instantly recognized. If not, follow the instructions in the guide.
There are also instructions in there for disabling the "Av/C Tuner" every time the deck gets connected. Hope this helps - worked for me! - cliffpro.com
