Question about Kenmore HE5 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Which screws go to the door of a Kenmore Elite HE 5t?

My dryer door was not closing properly. So I bought the latch for the door. I made the process more difficult than what it really was because I took the entire door apart, took off all of the inside screws and the door hinges. (Until I looked it up on youtube) Well, I put everything BACK together and it closes perfectly (yay) but it won't start because the sensor isn't being pushed when it closes and it looks like it's not aligned correctly. The screws can be seen when the door closes PLUS I have two additional screws that I don't know where they go!!

If this is not a joke, then PLEASE follow 2 basic tips when repairing or attempting to repair anything. First take several good sharp high rez images of everything you are going to be working on BEFORE you do anything and as you are taking things off. Do a simple edit on each image by placing a number or letter next to each screw or terminal or anything else you may be removing and/or replacing in the original images. Then using boxes, labels, small cups, an egg carton, or similar, place each screw or part as you remove it into a separate spot labeled as you did in the images. I have been tinkering around with just about everything for more years than I like to think about, but I still use this method when I am working on something new for the first time.

Specifically the door is obviously not closing perfectly and you "screwed up" if you have screws or any parts left over. The mechanic in "Doc Hollywood" always had a bag of parts left over if you have ever seen that sappy movie. You could just take it all apart again and look for some holes that need screws but don't have them and experiment until you get all correct. If this is your model then you can see a complete parts diagram here:

Each of the parts including screws will be labeled and have a part number which you can look up. If this is not your model, just enter your model number in the search box and find what you need. If you can't tell which screw goes where by looking at the images of each, then you will have to do a google search on the part number and find out exactly what size it is.

SOURCE: How to replace door switch on old kenmore stac.dryer 110.88752792

Door switch If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch.Check online for the part has it for $14.00 not bad

My dryer door won't stay shut while drying

Dryers have a Door latch that is female and the strike that is male. When the door is closed, the door latch hooks up to the strike and keep the door closed. PLEASE inspect these items. Also, make sure that the door is loose from the screws that hold it to the body.

The dryer door will not stay closed, so it shuts off after starting

Check your door latch.Shut the door and pull it open. If it pulls open very easily then you need to change the door latch. Make sure the door is not sprung
If it is then put a small screwdrive in front of the latches inside the door and push very gently in degrees. Then remove the screw driver and test it. Do this over and over (very gently) until it closes properly.
Or you can remove the hinges off the door and straigten them.

Beeps 15 times and displays a "dl" then "F" on the screen. It has power, but will not start. Nothing has changed to power or water supply.

F is a failure, dl is door lock,

Something has broken or malfunctioned with the door lock mechanism. Make sure nothing is causing the door not to close properly. If all is well you most likely will need a new latch mechanism

Door won't stay closed. Door latch seems loose or intermittently will open enough to stop the dryer.

Dryer doors either have a combined switch, with a mechanical lock, or these two things are separate.
Whichever type you have, your description of the latch being loose is telling.
Part of the latch has either snapped off internally, and if so, it would be the part that was under the most pressure, due to having a spring or sprund element behind it, which should 'snap' the door shut.
If it has not broken, the two (possibly 4) mount screws that mount the latch to the door fascia have come loose
and this is why the mechanism is now unreliable.
These screws are only accessible from the interior, on the reverse side of the latch, next to the drum.
Whilst very easy to tighten, only a qualified electrician or service technician should access high voltage equipment..

Door latch to Kenmore Elite Oasis gas dryer has come loose. It will not close properly in order for dryer to start. Need instructions on how to repair or replace latch piece on door.

On this washer, the dl code indicates a failed lid lock mechanism. Pressing pause/cancel should reset the controls.

You may have to unplug the unit for 20-30 minutes, then restore the power.

If that doesn't work, the only other solution would be to replace the door lock assembly.

I have a Kenmore Elite HE4.THe door will not stay shut. It doesn't click anymore when I push the door to close it. Any ideas?

The catch side, not the latch side, the catch on the frame may have backed off some what. It's not unusual for this to happen over time. Take a peek around the catch and see if there are any adjustment options such as two slots where the mounting screws are, a hex key slot behind it to adjust the reach and so on.With a flash light close the door very slowly and from above as best you can see if the spring fed latch is near enough to the catch. Also try hip checking the handle to try closing it.If then it latches you may have a section of seal gasket that is misplaced or swollen. See, not being there makes this a very difficult call. I've given about the most options I can think of and I hope for you guys that one of them works. Also if your closer latch is similar to the operation of a screen door latch, don't be afraid to pry the latch lightly in the direction towards the catch/latch. Good luck and Thank you, Dana

Most likely the receptacle that the door latch goes into is broken. Go to local appliance parts dealer with model number and buy the $5 part, or order through Sears Parts Direct online.

First time use, not working

The door switch is not closed or the board is not sensing the door is closed.
Push in at the top of the door to make sure it is latched at the top.
This is a common problem on the HE4's that was not a problem with the HE3's. We are hearing from Kenmore and Whirlpool that a fix is coming, a different latch I think.
Even if pushing in at the top makes it work, call for service so the problem can be addressed.
Post back if you have any questions.

Kenmore elite he3 electric dryer

If you get a series of four rapid beeps when you push START in an attempt to start your dryer, your door switch (interlock) is defective.  I have experienced this problem before and it is a fairly simple problem to fix.  The easiest way to tell is to open the dryer door and push the door interlock in by hand.  Hold it in while pushing the START button.  If the dryer starts, then all you have is a simple problem of the door not closing properly.  If the dryer still does not start, however, replace the dryer door interlock.  The interlock should also make a definite "click" while pushing it in.  If it does not, the switch is worn out.  Some dryers have an upper and lower door interlock.  If yours is equipped with two interlocks, make sure they are both functioning and that the door is latched properly.  I have experienced problems where dryers doors with two interlocks would close at the top, but not at the bottom.  The dryer would not start as a result.  If you can provide me with your model number I can get a part number and price for you.  I can also tell you where you can get the part and provide instructions on how to replace it.  Let me know.  I hope this helps you.
