Question about Jenn-Air Refrigerators

1 Answer

Fussy Frige We have a 10 year old Jenn Air JCD 2295KES, side by side, that has been acting up for the last few months. First we noted ice was clumping, and this appeared to due to a drip from the front portion of the ice maker as you can see the water collect and then drop onto the ice in the tray. When this water would freeze it would make clumps of ice. No biggie. Then we noticed that the unit would make a soft "electrical" sound when it tried to turn on and cool. Sometimes the sound would be brief, followed by the compressor turning on and the unit would start to cool. Other times, the sound would continue for (?) 10 seconds and then stop, without the unit turning on to cool. A few minutes later, it would try again (and again) until it eventually started. One evening it just stopped. The system had warmed to about 60-70 degrees. My wife pulled out everything and cleaned the unit from top to bottom, including the condenser and all of its dust. When done, she plugged it back it and it seemed to work great for a day or two, and the ice maker even stopped dripping. After a few days, however, the "electrical" noise returned. Even though is has not died, and it is running cautiously fine right now, it seems as if it is only a matter of time before something fails and we need to do something about it. So, Run Capacitor or Overload Relay with Start Capacitor?

Yes 66003764 Overload, Relay with Run Capacitor and you may need to also change the=> 67006531 Water Inlet Valve because it is not closing all the way and allowing water to continue to drip into the ice maker when it should be off. Here is a JCD2295KES Parts List and JCD2295KES User Manual I am here should you have questions, Thanks Sea Breeze

When changing the overload, relay and run capacitor you should also insure the condenser fan is running strong because sometimes the condenser fan can cause the start relay overload and run capacitor to become defective. If the fan is not healty please replace it also. Thanks John Tripp http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/C...

Check the water flow to the ice maker. Turn the supply water off, loosen a fitting near the ice maker and then turn the water on. You should get plenty of water. If it is slow, check the filter.

Our Jenn Air Pro model 48" side by side with ice maker is running warm. I have cleaned the condensing unit coils faithfully every two - three months. freezer runs 19 - 28 degrees frig runs 38- 43...

I just did a service call on a Jenn air side by side that had similar symptoms, It was about 9 years old. after checking to see if the evaporator coil was iced(defrost problem) and it wasn't . I had to conclude that the compressor was losing capacity(reed valves leaking). The unit I was working on had an embraco compressor made in Brazil. You could have it checked by a tech to be sure. I assume the unit is running most of the time if its cycling off then you mat just have a thermostat malfunctioning

Interior of Jenn Air side by side frig has odor or burned rubber inside. frig is 10 yrs old and has also had problems with ice build up on coils and I have had to manually defrost when it no longer cools....

would like to say yes but parts for this unit are scarce and expensive,10 years is pretty good and if you do decide to change it you will notice a big difference in running costs/efficiency.

Ice maker not working. appears no water coming in. water dipenser is working fine in frige.

Pour tap water into the ice tray if empty of cubes. Let freeze and if cubes drop then the dual water control on back of the refrigerator is most likely the problem. Click Here=> Rear of JFC2087HRP you will see part 10 in photo, that is your dual water control valve OEM Part=> 67005154
It can be bad only on ice maker side. Let me know about the ice test so we can determine which part is the problem. If you have more questions please let me know, Thanks Sea Breeze

I have a Jenn Air refrig JCD 2389GES....the frezzer is working fine, the the fridg is warm.....what should I do? I took the ice maker out and cleaned the slots behind it....the fridg side is still not...

Check the circulation fan in the freezer compartment that circulates the cold to the fresh food compartment. If its not running, and no ice is on it to bind uo the blades, replace the motor.

Jenn Air JCD2389 fridge not cold on fridge side

You have plugged the defrost drain line. This is where the water goes to in the bottom of your freezer when it goes through the defrost (removal of ice from the freezer coil) cycle. It sounds like that hole is plugged and now the water/ice has now frozen in the vent that lets air circulate down into your refrigerator compartment. What I usually do in this case is to unplug the refrigerator, empty out the freezer compartment. Usually I also end up either pulling off the back panel or the bottom panel (in the freezer compartment) Looking for that defrost drain hole and thawing it out with a heat gun (be careful of melting plastic) or actually I use a hair dryer. I can sometimes do this also by pouring small amounts of HOT tap water onto it and then sopping/absorbing it away with a sponge or dishcloth. I repeat this until I get the water to go down the drain tube.

Try it and let me know!

Freezer side works fine

you probably have a defrost issue. things to check are:
defrost heater not open circuit
there is often a thermal cutout in series with the heater and this may be open circuit.
defrost sensor may be wrong value.
fault in module
