Question about Maytag M6Y18F7A Air Conditioner

Open Question

A/C not working

I try to turn it on, but it just hums, and does not start. It sounds like it wants to run, but no cold air comes out. It shuts off after about a minute or two

One of your thermostats are bad. If you can post your make and model number of your machine, I will be able to direct you to the parts and a video to show you how to make the repair.

Not staying cool

sounds like it is either low on Freon or the compressor is going out. The blowing ice cold is an indicator that it may be freezing up because the low Freon. when it stops blowing cold, turn it to fan only mode and see if it gets colder again. If that is the case then the unit is low on freon and freezing up. I know that sounds confusing but that is how AC works. The low freon pressure means the gas is expanding too fast and the air flow cannot take up the cold from the evaporator fast enough. Turning the compressor off and keeping the fan on will alow the room air to take up the cold.

2002 Pontiac grand am suddenly stopped running while driving now just hums when trying to start

run fault codes and check for cam/crank position sensor fault. check that the cam shaft is turning over ( broken timing belt) The whistling sound is probably air from compression escaping past bent valves.

SM 8525492A whirlpool washer rinse cycle no water comes out, just hums

when the washer goes into rinse cycle it only uses cold water so clothes don't rinkle,so most likey you have a problem with your cold water,do this, shut down the water to the washer, remove the water lines from the back of washer and mark them so you know how they came off, stick the hoses into the washer if they reach or a bucket, turn on the cold water to see if water is coming out of hose,if water does come out of hose good then stick the cold water hose back on the washer and run it only on cold,if it doesn't fill then you know you have a problem with the water valve on the washer and it's not the house water valve that's bad,and usually if you have a problem with the washer water valve it will just hum and no water will enter the washer so if you hear a humming sound it will be the water valve.tried looking up the model number you sent but it doesn't come up on the parts lookup

Dutchmen 2004 air conditioner hums but no air comes ot

Sounds like fan start capacitor may be shot. If you take cover on roof off, have unit shut off, and spin the fan by hand very carefully ,real good and then have someone turn it on immediately after, it will probably start up and run ok, until you shut it off again. Try that once and if it starts and runs, let it run for 10 minutes or so, then shut it off and try without spinning it by hand to see if it will start on it's own. If it does, it may be ok for a while, especially if it had been sitting , not used for a while. I've seen them get a dead spot from sitting and once you restart them they tend to cure themselves and be ok for who knows how long. Remember, Very carefully and quickly get hand away or use a stick if you can.

Let me know the result.

No cold air.

Is the air conditioner completely dead? See section 1. Is the thermostat knob turned to the proper setting? Is the compressor motor running? The compressor is a football-sized case with no apparent moving parts. It is located inside the air conditioner at the center. Is it humming or making any kind of continuous noise or causing the lights to dim? If it is making a continuous noise, and your air conditioner is still not cooling at all, there may be a serious problem with one or more of these areas:

  • Compressor

  • Condenser

  • Evaporator

These items are not user serviceable. You will need to contact a qualified appliance repair technician to repair these components.

If the compressor is not running but you do have power to the air conditioner there may be a problem in one or more of these areas:

  • Compressor

  • Overload and/or relay

  • Thermostat (Open thermostat)

  • Burnt wiring

  • Bad selector switch

  • Capacitor
