SOURCE: can't reinstall xp pro on my hp compaq nc6320

Stephane, I ran into the same problem after wiping out my Compaq nc6320 and trying to install XP Pro. The fix is to disable SATA Native mode. To do this: Enter F10 Setup then System Configuration>Device Configurations>SATA Native Mode and disable it, save the changes and now you should be able to install XP Pro. Remember, when I did this the drive was blank, I don't know if that makes a difference or not. Best of luck! Bryan P.S. If you want to enable SATA native mode after you have installed XP Pro check out this link: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1042050&admit=-682735245+1161793137260+28353475

Installing windows xp to compaq presario 700 pc notebook

HP Compaq Presario 700 series was originally designed for XP and Vista, therefore you can install XP on it.

After installing Windows XP, you will need to install all drivers.

You can download drivers and software for your laptop from HP here.

Problem with new install xp

First of all, was there a reason that you wanted to reinstall windows? If you were having problems with the operating system and now upon reload the hard disk is not appearing it could mean that the disk or the system board itself is bad.

If you pull the XP disk out and just try to boot your computer up are you able to login and use your computer from the previous/original install of XP?

If so, then perhaps you're using a special hard drive controller that supports RAID. If you have a RAID controller you'll need to load the drivers of that controller on a Floppy disk. During the initial startup of the XP install it will give you the opportunity to click the F6 button on the keyboard to load additional device drivers. You want to click F6 when it prompts you at the bottom of the screen and wait for it to prompt you to put your floppy disk (with the RAID controller drivers) in the floppy drive.

Hope this helps. If you need more help just let me know.
