This is a problem with your carbon brushes, remove old brushes, and check they have not become jammed in there brass sleaves, they are spring loaded.
If they are not jammed but less than 20mm new brushes are required, available from most good vacuum stores.
Before purchasing spin the motor, and feel that the copper commutator, where the brushes contact with, is not buckled (not even slightly)
NB Buy genuine Numatic they go back in better.

There was smoke coming out from where the motor is located of my shark rocket vacuum cleaner and it was smelling like it was burning too and there where also sparks coming from the motor as well too ?

I am guessing that the motor has died on you and has stopped working and needs to be replaced. These types of vacuum cleaners last about 5 years and if you had it for 4 years and this problem is occurring then it is most likely a faulty vacuum cleaner here that you could of had purchased and you should buy a new vacuum cleaner. Costco sells shark rocket vacuum cleaners.

Dyson upright vacuum with kinked cord kept stopping. There was a loud bang and smoke and the vacuum stopped. Has the motor blown up, or can it be repaired?

This happens a lot the supply cable bending or damaged shorts out causing smoke and a bang if fitted with or backed up with a high amperage fuse .
check length of supply cable if you find damage/ burning smell,
either replace cable, or you could fit a inline rubber socket and plug by cutting out damaged part of cable and fitting female part of plug first into supply cable 1. then on the vacuum side of cable fit the male part of plug 2 . supply 1. -----o o----------2.--- vac
using insulation tape if you like you can tape plug and socket together to stop it pulling apart, normally cable damage will not damage the vacuum cleaner. and fit the correct fuse rating for the machine 1000 watts at 240v divide 240 into 1000 =4.166 amps
so with a 1000 w load you do not need a 13 a fuse fitted 6 amp fuse should be ok. or go online and see what is recommended re fuse size for appliance ,

My dyson DC24 makes a horrible noise when the brush is spinning.... like it's not stable.

Hi Michelle, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC24. The rattling noise could be caused by something obstructing the brush bar. Please take a look at the video attached, and make sure the cleaner head is free of blockages, and the brush bar is free of any threads or hair. Once you've removed the brush bar, check both this and the cleaner head for any visible damage.

Once you've reassembled the machines, please test it to see if it's still making the unusual noise. If it is, our experts will be happy to help further - and if a replacement part is needed, they can confirm if we're able to order this under the terms of your machine's 5-year guarantee.

You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Best wishes,

How can i fix my H20 mop x5 steam cleaner

see this causes, and use the common sense God bless you
nspect your steam cleaner's belts for loss or damage. Damaged belts can cause the brushes to stop rolling or the spray mechanism to stop functioning. To fix a damaged pump or brush belt, first unplug the steam cleaner. Refer to the user's manual to determine the specific location of each belt. Order a new belt directly from the manufacturer's website, or from a local home improvement store, if necessary.

Hi. I have a DC 24 which when brush rotates makes a very loud noise. I have replaced the brush and side bar. The side bar appears very loose. The noise stops when I switch the brush rotation off. Any ideas...

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC24. If the cleaner head seems to be making an unusual noise during use, you may want to check all the parts are correctly assembled, and that the cleaner head and brushbar are free of obstructions. The video below may help in doing this.

If you've tried this and are still concerned about the noise, please get in touch with us directly, as we should be able to determine the cause of the noise over the phone, and provide further assistance. You can call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US) - it will help if you have the machine to hand when you call.

Best wishes,

Why does my Dyson animal squeal on carpet

Hi, there are a number of different Dyson vacuums and they vary widely in construction. Unfortunately most models have an "animal" version so that's not helpful in identifying your particular cleaner. If you know the actual model number, I'm sure I might have some ideas of what will cause squeeling.

Off the top of my head, DC25's often have issues with "whistling HEPAs" but not usually carpet related, DC17's may exhibited brush roller noises if the belt is damaged. DC07's, 14's, 33's all have a clutch drive which sometimes fail causing "racheting" or other strange noises.

Emptied and replaced dirt reservoir. Now it seems to have lost vacuum and won't stand verticle. Wife, regular user, also can not make it work.

Hi Tom,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC14. From what you've described, it sounds as if the valve carriage needs repositioning. This is easy to do - please follow the steps shown in the video below.

I'm confident this will resolve the issue, but for any further assistance or advice, please call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

While starting my vaccum cleaner big noise and stream is coming . it is dead?

No Brand? I think you mean big noise and smoke? Smoke can be from a burning belt or dying motor. If it smells like burning rubber you likely have something jamming the brush roll. Otherwise suspect the bang came from a motor fan. Do not attempt to run. disassemble and inspect
