Be sure the Ribbon lift/feed motor is plugged in, alittle WD 40 on thw upper and lower bearings, mark the gear that engages the ribbon and type to see if it moves if it moves ikt isn't fully engaging the ribbon this happens with some generic supplies.

Befor you put a nrw motor in try a few drops of light oil on the m

SOURCE: IBM Selectric II Ribbon Not Advancing

First check to be sure that the ribbon is on the left of the shock wire where it comes out of the cassette, if that is OK then check the ribbon driver it should move freely and swing to the ribbon take up spool. Some WD40 will free it up. Also be sire the ribbon is winding in the direction of the arrows.

SOURCE: Ribbon will not advance

mark the ribbon where it turns, where there is a pin of the typewriter passing through the ribbon, mark it with a white marker.
and type something, if it doesnt turn, you know the machine has a problem.
or try everytime pressing on the ribbon, if it works you know the ribbon is coming up, check if the correction ribbon is placed good.behind the correctable ribbon.

IBM Wheelwriter 6 - Ribbon doesn't lift high enough for the key that's pressed to print on paper. Ribbon advances OK.

If theribbon dosen't lift at all see if the black gear on the R. side of the printer will move, if not w3iggle it and it should free up they get tooth for tooth with the motor gear. If it only lifts partually thereis an adjustment on the roll that works with the black gear. BE SURE TO CHECK THGAT BTHE PLATEN IS FULLY SEATED IN THE VSIDE FRAMES THEY DO GET LOOSE!

Found a new ribbon, put new batteries in the small compartment under type wheel housing. The ribbon won't advance. What am I missing?

The ribbon feed motors Gum up and don't move. Sprat some WD40 on the motor bearings. The motor is located just below the ribbon deck on the right.

Ribbbon won't turn on IBM Electronic 50 typewriter.

I'm guessing you have a Wheelwriter not a memory writer 50..

Try a little WD40 on the ribbon feed motor and feed mech just under the R. rear of the ribbon deck. Also check the plug to that motor I have had them come out. If these don't work revove the ribbon, mark the black gear that feeds the ribbon with a dab of white out and see if it turns. If not you will need a tech.

My ribbon is not moving. I got a new ribbon, but it is still not advancing. Is there anything I can do. It is a IBM wheelright 6.

Try some WD40 on the upper and lower bearings of the ribbon feed motor. It's just under the R. front or the ribbon deck. also check to be sure the motor is pluged in.. Other than that you'll need a tech.

The ribbon won't 'take up'. It seems stuck in one

Remove the ribbon and wind the feedwheel by hand and check for ribbon movement, if none, replace. Visually inspect the ribbbon feed assembly to see if it is rotating the feed gears (mark with felt pen) A drop or two of oil mayhhelp, but the ribbon motor may be defective also.
