SOURCE: A faded line prints across the page

The imaging bar has speck of dust on it.
Turn printer OFF.
Open the printer. Pull out the transfer roller. Should have a big green handle. Do not touch the roller.
Look inside for a shiny rectangular block about 5inches x 0.5 inch.
This is the imaging bar. Using a lint free cloth with no chemical and no water, gently wipe this bar to remove any specks of dust/paper specks.
Put roller back.
Close the printer.
Turn printer ON.
Problem fixed.

SOURCE: I have just replaced black cartridge & drum.

Remove the drum and clean the glass for the laser lens that is located just below the toners in the middle of the printer.

SOURCE: Streaks & Smears after changing toner cartridge.

Remove all of your toners and clean them off. Replace each one and make sure they are well setted in the unit before going to the next one. Make sure the carosel turns smoothly and nothing is hanging up on the sides. Reboot the whole printer and let it settle for 5 mins before printing. toners come lose sometimes when you turn carosel around. Hope this helps you these printers are a ***** to deal with ,but when they are right there great.

Why are the colors on printouts not overlapping?

You probably need to run an alignment procedure. See the link below.

I'm printing a double sided card. The back side comes out fine (white with black letters). The front side needs to be completey black with red letters. It keeps coming out blurry. How do I fix that?

It may be that the ribbon is mispositioned. There are quite a few points in the trouble shooting section of the owners manual. These start on page 53. Here is the link to the page at the zebra company site that you can download the manual from.

Hope this helps,

Black catridge printing is not working

Hi Aravind,

Are you using a refill cartridge? It would be best to allign after installing the cartridges?

Since most cartridges today have electronic contacts on them, if you dirtied them before installing the cartridge, it is possible that this could affect the performance, you might want to take the cartridge out and clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol.

Also, the alignment of the print heads may need to be adjusted, my hp requires this to make sure the color and black line up properly, otherwise you get a blurry image.

Furthermore, if the problem is with the color cartridge and you are trying to print a page of black letters and the printer is set to use colors, it may try to print the black using all of the colors instead of using the black cartridge. So you may need to clean the color cartridge as well. Try looking at the printing properties and making sure black is selected when printing something that is only text and see if it does it correctly then.
Good Luck!

I have a Xerox Phaser 8400 with image problems. After power up it prints a Startup Page - That page is black text which faded and slightly distorted in some areas and in areas that are in Color only...

What you are describing is a bad print head. You can try running the eliminate light stripes several times, and jet substitution, but most likely the print head will have to be replaced to remedy your problem.
You can try googling. Phaser printer print heads or phaser printheads.
There seems to be a secondary market appearing for those print heads. I can tell you from Xerox, if you have no maintenance agreement, they cost $750 per print head.
Honestly, having worked on about every type of color printer known to man, the new solid ink phaser printers, produce a dry ink image of 2400 x 2400 dpi with ink particles that align end to end. The resolution of those printers are remarkable and can be purchased for less than the price of one of those new print heads.
Now for reliable, albeit somewhat not as sharp a color image, but still exceptional, you really can not beat an HP.
The ink stick technology really no longer has the color vividness advantage it initially had. The inks that align end to end, have ended that advantage and are sure a lot cheaper to operate per page.

Phote prints out faded and in black and pink only

Hello,

There are a number of single issues that can cause your problem in this case. The most common are listed below:
1.) Color cartridge expended.
2.) Print Paper selection incorrect.

From your statement above. I would suggest it is both item 1 and 2. Since, we are doing this assistance via chat mail, I can't come to your aid and witness myself what the results are and what your settings are for the paper type.

When you end up with a red hue over all over the print area the cause it usually a bad print head and selecting the wrong paper type.

To answer you question then, Yes, replace your color cartridge. But, first, try this method below to clean your color cartridge bubble jets.

When you go to print a job, always go into print setup or printer properties and choose the paper type as closely as you can to match the paper you are using.

The print head manual cleaning is listed below, it is from Lexmark. Below that is a process to clean blurry and bad print results. Although this is not specifically the case in your problem. The process to achieve resolution will also correct any problem your machine may be having. Remember, I do believe you need a new color cartridge. You will know with certainty however when you clean the cartridge head. If you do not see, cyan, magenta and yellow lines upon cleaning, at all, ever, then those inks are depleted. Replace your ink cartridge and then do these steps below the head cleaning.

Also, when ever you change a black or color cartridge you will want to run a print head alignment test and adjustment. There is enough of a difference in cartridges that this is quite necessary.

Please do not hesitate to give me as much feedback as possible on any issues and results you discover. You can use the comment text area below to respond to these instructions and give me the results of your tests and procedures.

Regards, Worldvet

Cleaning procedure

  4. Using another clean section of the cloth, gently hold the cloth against the contacts for about three seconds, and then wipe in the direction shown.

    pattlnk_6142005_1420-all_carts_clean_contacts.jpg
  5. With another clean section of the cloth, repeat steps 2 through 4 above.
  6. Allow the nozzles and contacts to dry completely.
  7. Reinsert the print cartridges.
  8. Print the document again.
  9. If the print quality does not improve, repeat the steps for cleaning the nozzles and contacts up to two more times.
To Resolve Print Quality Issues (below is for blurry lines, it will resolve many other issues too, so proceed after replacing your color ink cartridge if upon cleaning you see no ink coming out and the cartridge feels very light and makes little to no sound when you shake the cartridge.)

Overview This article outlines various techniques for resolving a blurry print issue. Cleaning the print cartridge nozzles is necessary when:
  • Characters are not printing completely.
  • White dashes appear in graphics or printed text.
  • Print is smudged or too dark.
  • Vertical, straight lines are not smooth.
  • Colors on print jobs are faded, or they differ from the colors on the screen.
Clean the Print Cartridge Nozzles using the Computer
    1. Load plain paper.
    2. Open the Lexmark Solution Center (go to Start, Programs, Lexmark XXXX Series, Lexmark Solution Center).
    3. From the Maintenance tab, click Clean to fix horizontal streaks.
    4. Click Print. A nozzle page prints, forcing ink through to clean the clogged nozzles.
    5. Print the document again to verify that print quality has improved.
    6. If print quality has not improved, try cleaning the print cartridge nozzles up to two more times.
Clean and Wick the Cartridge
  1. Try cleaning and wicking the cartridge to help improve the print quality. See this article for directions.
  2. When this step is complete, try to run the clean print nozzles (CPN) operation again.

HP 722C has quit printing black in color draft

WORKAROUND: Select EconoFast or Draft as the print quality setting in the printer properties. This will prevent the color cartridge from being used. - Or - Try another color cartridge. The color cartridge is used to print grayscale images in Normal or Best print modes, so if one color has run out, the printout will have the wrong tint. With a full color cartridge, the colors can be properly combined to create a composite black. CAUSE: When printing with Normal or Best as the print quality setting, the HP Deskjet 710C or 720C or 722C series printer will use the color ink to improve print quality output, even when printing a grayscale image.
