Problem for Toshiba Satellite® M105-S1021 (PSMA2U02K010) PC Notebook
Powers on but show no post
Hello,
I am fixing a friends laptop and on of the first things I noticed is that the keyboard keys were pushed in, basicly it looked like someone either stepped on it or dropped something.
When I turn it on the lights shows that there is power but HDD drive light does not ligt up, no sound of hdd acitivity, and the cpu fan turns on for 5 seconds and turns off. Also, there is nothing showing on the screen, no post, nothing. I guess I am answering my own question by saying it's the motherboard, but I need a second opinion. I took a look at the motherboard and it looks fine.

- Thank you for your response, I have checked the lcd conncection, and hooked it up to a second monitor with no luck. It does not beep and I have tried the hard drive to another laptop and it worked so I can eliminate a hard drive problem. So I figure it could be either a bad memory stick or a bad motherboard.One question, if it was a bad memory stick, wouldn't I see post anyway? Thank your for your help, it is greatly appreciated

- The laptop is a few years old, it's a Toshiba Satellite m105-s1021. It only has one 512mb memory stick and I tried switching it to the other slot. I figure it is a motherboard problem and I have found a couple of used ones for about $195.00 It might be better for her to purchase a new laptop since they are getting inexpensive now a days.Anyway, thank you so much for your input.

Have you checked the connections from MB to LCD screen have you tried hooking it up to a second monitor it should have a connector on back of laptop for that so you could at least see post. If it beeps and no screen maybe memory sticks to check, also do you have a harddrive or maybe even a usb drive to try it with?
If hard drive failed it should say that or no operating system when booting up.
If you have a memory stick that will work with it try that. Heat is an enemy to computers.Maybe blowing a fan on it might help but it might be too late.

- I don't think the video works if the memory is bad. But you will get beeps ( maybe a couple long ones) but i don't remember for sure. If it has 2 sticks take one out and turn it on and then try the other stick separately same way. Is it a newish laptop? You know the video gets pretty hot on newer ones that's why they are selling those extra fans set up for laptops like a docking station to keep them cooler.If you have a memory stick that will work with it try that. - Yeah it probably would be better to get a new one. She could sell her old one on Ebay as is, might want to keep her hard drive if it has important personal stuff.Mar 31, 2009
- Hold up don't give up on this laptop yet? I see others here with Toshiba's maybe different model # having the same problem. Have you checked support at toshiba's website? It is hard to tell if it is a hardware problem or software problem. I'm wondering now if it's a virus or something so try this go to http://www.freedrweb.com/cureit/ and download it or you can go to drweb.com and look for drweb cureit in downloads, it's FREE. Run it when it finishes then have it run a complete scan of the hard drive out of the laptop. You can download it onto a usb thumb drive.This is THE BEST ANTI VIRUS/MALWARE ETC. SCANNER I have found yet, it finds it all and cures it.Yes
