Question about Dometic RM2652 Refrigerator

1 Answer

My unit will not switch from AC to gas

When I unplug my rv plug or turn off my generator, the auto light on the refrigerator goes out and the unit will not switch to gas. If I keep the rv plug in and unplug the refrigerator in the back, the auto light stays on and the unit starts working on gas. The battery switch is always on. The dealer told me the batteries were low (with out checking the voltage) and that's why the unit would not work. He said I needed to replace my batteries. When I got home I checked my batteries, both with 120v plugged in and also with it disconnected. I read 6.5v on each battery and 13v reading in series and the water level was well over the plates. This Motor Home is a 2012 and less than a year old. I bought this Motor Home 5 months ago and it only had 78 miles on it. I have been trying to get this problem fixed for two months now.

SOURCE: Duo Therm A/C unit will not run

Check out the fan blade first and make sure you don't have a dirt dauber that has made a home large enough to stop your fan. I've had that happen on fans that weren't used for a while. The top cover is easy to remove so that you can see if the fan blades are turning freely by hand. If it turns freely by hand, then most likely the fan motor is out as burzerko says.

SOURCE: Circuit Breaker and Dometic Rooftop RV Air

Since your RV A/C works O.K. when plugged in to the land line and the trip happens when you run it on your generator the problem may be related to the generator output. It is possible that the power being supplied by the generator is not handling the surge when the A/C starts. Starting Amperage on start up is about 5 times the running Amperage for about 3 seconds until the compressor comes up to its rated speed.

SOURCE: AC,DC, gas RV fridge Dometic

You more than likely need to replace the control cable between the upper and lower board. It comes as a kit with the upper board. You can also do a bypass test by unplugging your thermoster from the circuit board. The thermoster is the temperature control for the refrigerator nothing to do with the freezer.

SOURCE: RV refrigerator works fine on AC power. Burns for 30 seconds on gas power then shuts off.

tap on the gas valve with a wrench, not too hard but not too light about 10 times, the valve is probably sticky from not being used,re-light and see what happens.

Try to unplug it from the battery a few hours and then plug it back in and see if you are now able to select the AC or LP mode. There has been a recall on the 1200LRIM, The defect is a potential cooling unit leak caused during AC electric mode operation. Click on the link below to read more:

Converting the power to genertor

You should not have to switch between battery and generator, unless you are trying to use an inverter as well. Batteries are 12vdc, typically run lighting, water pump, furnace, fridge controls. Generator powers ac, microwave, television, and anything else that plugs into a 120vac wall outlet. Inverter may also run select loads, and possibly dedicated wall outlets, but not AC, fridge, or microwave (usually).

Most RVs / Motorhomes now have automatic transfer switches that will switch between the generator, shorepower, and possibly an inverter. Your coach is made during an era of transition from manual transfer switch (in form of heavy duty electrical outlet near shore power cord) and the automatic transfer switch.

There is no specific place where a transfer switch or generator receptacle are mounted on an RV. There are no rules or regulations tha cover this as far as I know. Your RV may also have an EMS (Energy Management System) that will control the transfer switch as well. EMS panels are typically located above the refrigerator or above driver / passenger seats in overhead compartment.

Your possibly getting a DC voltage interuption Your convertor can be over heating causing a temporary drop. You can chech this by turning everthing dc supplied on and watch to see if the check light comes on then. Primary is electric and if no electric then it is suppose to look for gas.
