I found this site - The National Terror Alert Response Center - it looks like it's run by Homeland Security. They have an article about obsolete gas mask models you should avoid that you can find here: http://www.nationalterroralert.com/gasmasks/
They also have lots of preparedness guides that you can access on the site.

Are gas masks from WW2 still effective?

More than likely, they WW2-era gas masks won't be effective. If a gas mask came into contact with any type of chemical substance, the gas mask will no longer protect the wearer. Other environmental factors like moisture and heat can also affect the effectiveness of the gas mask. Also, many gas masks used in WW2 were manufactured with blue asbestos inside them, which makes them less than safe to begin with. Taking all that into consideration, I'd recommend buying a new one,

3 activated carbon Mask mask DIY

Activated charcoal - not to be confused with plain charcoal - has become a common ingredient in skin care products, due to its deep-cleansing properties. It can be found in facial soaps, masks, liquid cleansers, and even in makeup primers with the purpose of preventing your skin from getting oily. Activated charcoal, which is a form of processed carbon, has an adsorptive quality that allows it to bind to dirt, oil and environmental pollutants, lifting them from the skin. It's inexpensive and easy to find at pharmacies and health food stores, usually in the form of capsules or loose powder. You can mix it with your face cleanser for a deep cleanse or use with other ingredients to create simple, effective facial treatments.

Warning
Activated charcoal may stain your clothes. Before preparing any of these face masks consider changing your clothes. Make sure to wear something you don't mind getting dirty when you apply the mask to your face. If your clothes get stained, rinse them right away.

Say's "call emergency only " for out going calls. Won't let me call out.

This means you're either out of signal or you've been cut off by your operator. Sometimes when your phone has no signal it can link with passing satellites, and by law, they have to allow you to use their transceiver but only for Emergency Services (999). This is why you have that message. OR You have been cut off and can only use the phone in case of emergency, call your operator and find out which one it is! :)

The mower started. then just quit like ran out of gas. we blew thru the gas line going into the tank. then cleaned out filter. it won't start. at first it wouldn't even drain any gas out but we...

If the gas won't even drain from the tank, try removing the gas cap. It has vent holes and if this is plugged, the vacuum won't let the gas drain. If that is the case, clear the holes.
