Question about Sharp AL 1631 Copier
Regular Suppliers only carry the old slip on black tires. These are snap in. Could I change the whole shaft with the old style?
This machine had a tech. buul. update sharp change the feed tire to make it easier to replace.

You could try, or failing that take the tyres off the wheels and swap them.

The pickup roller with its square shaft and bearings are removed as an assembly. Remove
2) Paper Tray
3) Rear Cover
Four M3x10mm bright washerhead threading screws. Two of them are very low down in deep wells.
Carefully tug the cover rearward to remove it.
Note the parallel printer connector's bails when reinstalling this cover.
4) Right Side Cover (Optional)
Carefully tug the cover forcefully rearward to remove it.
5) Left Side Cover
Disconnect the speaker.
Gently tug the cover forcefully rearward to remove it.
6) Drivetrain Assembly
Mark the green ground wire location at one of the center screw.
Six M3x10mm bright washerhead threading screws.
One cable connection.
7) Gear Support Plate at Front Left
Three M3x10mm bright washerhead threading screws.
8) Electronics Pan
Two M3x10mm bright washerhead threading screws at the rear. NOTE the black ground wire at the left side screw.
Ten M3x10mm bright washerhead threading screws from underneath. NOTE that two of the screws are accessed through 10mm diameter holes in the pan.
Note the cable connections do not have to be disconnected and the electronics pan does not have to be completely removed.
9) Pickup Clutch
Pull it straight off. NOTE that it's indexed to only go on, one way. Note the other gears and their position (take a picture!)
10) Pickup Roller Assembly (w/Shaft)
One side bearing has a claw. Release the claw and the bearing can be slid toward the pickup roller, enabling removal of the entire pickup roller assembly.
Carefully remove the just old roller tire (or carefully just cut the old one lengthwise and discard). If you are careful, you can remove the entire pickup wheel by unlatching the small fasteners and removing the whole wheel, remove the old tire, reinstall a new tire and reassemble the entire assembly.
