I recently got myself the LifeCam VX-1000, and have since been trying to use it to record videos. The actual recording goes as it should, but when watching the videos on playback, a crackling sound begins to build up after about 1 minute and lasts until the end of the recording. I have tried altering input and output volumes to solve the problem, but it has not worked. Also, when recording just audio with any other microphone, there is not crackling whatsoever, so the problem cannot be my soundcard.
Hi that all sounds to me to be a fairly classic "Electret" Mic problem.
I have seen .. lol.. or rather, heard it, a few times B4.. the "Frying" sound you hear is the faulty electronics in the Electret microphone..
I would try replacing the Mic, if you can get one the same size, it shouldn't be too hard to Open the camera up, unsolder the old Mic, & replace it. There are really only a few standard Electret Mic inserts...
As an aside, sometimes it can simply be a bad solder joints to the wires on the actual mic itself, ya may wanna try good reflow/resolder first B4 ya replace.. This sometimes is all it requires...

When starting a call between my PC and my parents, their webcam appears to freeze on a single frame at my end of the connection. They can see me OK and things are OK and voice is OK too, just seems to freeze on a single frame within the first second or so of the call..... any ideas ? Windows Live messenger, latest release. XP at both ends SP3 on my PC and SP2 on the other. Video drivers are up to date and camera's are both Microsoft VX1000's brand new !
