Question about Epson Stylus CX5400 All-In-One InkJet Printer
My all-in-one scanner printer won't print, even offline. When trying to do a nozzle check, for instance, it loads a few sheets of paper, moves the head across and back a few times, pauses, then goes into error with the red light on, and a message "Printer problem >>> Check documentation or call for service". It scans fine to a file (won't copy to printer), and this just happened after it was working fine, except for faded copies cause the printer had sat too long. I'd recently changed to some after market cartridges, then a piece of paper got jammed into it, which I removed, and I've disassembled the unit and verified that there is no debris whatsoever in it. I also cleaned out the excess ink and head. I've also gone as far as I can go with Epson Tech support, who just want me to return it for service (out of warranty). One other note, sometimes when it loads paper it makes chattering sounds that I believe are coming from the lower gear/cam on the right side. Regards, Bill [email protected]
Fix 'Carriage Jam' : Open Door, clear carriage jam,
and then press OK to continue' error message
Turn off the printer and open it to see where the paper is stuck.
Manually move the carriage toward the opposite side.
Check the paper path and remove any piece of paper or any other object that is stuck in the path.
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Dont know how it is in the good old US but here in UK - Epson have this super 'swap out' scheme for the more complex devices that die out of warranty. What we do - is to phone Epson and tell them the tale. they will then offer to send FedEx with a new printer and you give the driver your old one all for a quick flash of your plastic friend. If they do it - go for it.
