SOURCE: The compressor on my central a/c unit doesnt shut off no matter how high I set the thermostat.

check for voltage at the contactor coil it should be 24 volts it sounds like the points on your contactor welded together not allowing it to release. if you have no 24 volts at the coil and you are sure the stat is off this is most likely the problem and if so you should replace the contactor.

Amana ASD2620HRB Side-by-Side freezer running, but not freezing. What could cause this?

What is running? The important motor is the compressor - the one that works with the refrigerant to supply cooling. If it is not running you can check the start relay/capacitor. If they are good, make sure that electricity is reaching the motor windings. If the thermostat stays open, the compressor will not be activated.
If compressor is running and if there is ice buildup on the evaporator behind the back panel, then the self defrost mechanism is not working - could be you have an open heater coil. If you completely defrost the refrig for a day and then plug back in, if it works fine, then it is definitely ice buildup which serves as an insulator and prevents cold air from reaching the refrigerator portion.

Electrolux freezer will not turn on automatically when termperature warms in compartment, controls don't appear to turn compressor on, any help would be appreciated?

Sounds like your thermostat is bad. You probably have to replace it and the sending unit also. Big job! Look for a manual at : http://www.servicemanuals.net

My viking under counter refrigerator freezes all liquid

Is it a digital temp. display? Does this show a low temp? It should show +/-34 degrees. Listen if the compressor runs continuously. It should run for a while and then switch off. When you change the temp setting, as you turn it down, the compressor should stop. If it runs continuously then the likely cause is a stuck/faulty thermostat. Before replacing this, switch off and leave open until unit is at room temp. Then switch on again and monitor. If the thermostat if faulty and the compressor runs continuously you can damage it by overheating. The compressor will run for a good few hours after restart, until set temp. is reached and then switch off automatically. Good luck!

Central ac compressor keeps running

Sounds like the contactor is stuck. Turn the power off on both units and remove panel on condenser. Pull out on the contactor if engaged. Likely still needs replaced, it's going to happen again.

Helo. Our Distinctions system's fan runs continuously, but the air coming through the vents is room temperature. What can I do?

If you have adjusted the thermostat setting and the compressor still does not run, you may have some wiring, compressor, overload, or capacitor problem.

Takes 4 ever to dry clothes. Will run & run when on auto dry.

If your dryer seems to run forever, it could be because of a clogged vent or internal ductwork. Your dryer may have an automatic cycle that turns off the dryer when the clothes are dry. It does this with a special thermostat or moisture-sensing system.Normally, this is what happens during an automatic cycle: The thermostat tells the dryer to heat until the interior of the dryer reaches a pre-set temperature--say 135 degrees. When the dryer reaches the pre-set temperature, the thermostat tells the timer to begin advancing. (If there's a moisture sensor, the timer advances only if the moisture content of the clothing is low enough.) The timer advances until the interior cools, then the thermostat tells the timer to stop advancing, and tells the dryer to start heating again. This cycle continues until the clothes are dry. But...if the vent is clogged, the dryer may never reach the proper operating temperature, so it doesn't send the signal to the timer and the dryer continues to run indefinitely, even if the clothes are completely dry. To fix the problem, clean the vent and/or internal ductwork.

Ac unit continues to run for as long as up to 45 minutes after it reaches set point. why? thermostat functions properly periodicaly. thermostat is about 15 months old. was installed at same as new heat...

this can be caused by several issues (1) Configuration program, this is not the program that you the end user set up for time of day programing. Nor set point. but how the T-stat is set up to operate for your particular system, A dead band change my be necessary.in most programable T-stats the system must get temp 1 degree below set point before the system will shut down (2) A relay can be sticking in the condenser unit keeping the compressor on when there is not a call for cooling. for this a good working knoledge of electricity is a must although the t-stat opeates on 24 volts there is high voltage in close proxcimity of control relays ranging from 120 too 240 volts (3) dust on the temp sensor can also be an issue dust act as an insulator not allowing the sensor too sense the Temp properly. (4) or that T-stat can and possibly has failed Electronic T-stat are suseptable too power surges although this is not a frequent occurance it is possible. I would reccomend having your local HVAC contractor check into this. depending on you Mechanical skill

Is there frost on the freezer panel? are the two motor and compressor running (freezer motor and condenser motor)? find this out 1st. this is nothing you did but if you are not mechanically incline at this point only a frig tech can properly check and tell you exactly what is it. theres are the things it might be...
compressor not working
condenser not running
freezer fan not running
thermostat not sensing temp.
stuck in defrost
heaters on too long
bi-metal shorted
timer not working
now if you paid alot for this frig at least get someone to look at it for a service call ($40-60) if it too high to repair then its time to get a new one

Motor never turns itself off

If by motor you mean the compressor itself then no, it should not run all the time. The compressor should run until the thermostat senses the temp. is at where you set it then turns off the compressor. A couple of possible things... if the unit has a leak in the refrigerant then it may run almost continuously since it can barely reach the cold setting you have selected. Or the temp. sensor thermostat may be bad and the unit doesn't know to turn off. There is also a defrost cycle that happens about every 12 hours for a few minutes (depending on make/model on how it works) but that should also turn off the compressor and fans until the defrost cycle is completed. Basically it should turn off when the temp. setpoint is reached or when it's in the defrost cycle.
