Check the capacitor! That's the black box next to your pull chain switch with wires going to the switch. If it looks like it's expanding then you need to replace it.

Burning plastic smell when cold out run heater and fan inside car and out

Are you loosing radiator fluid. sometimes the heater core will rupture and you will smell burn odor. also check for strange rubbing sounds or screeching coming from the blower fan motor. or engine exhaust manifolds are hot when car is on, make sure nothing is leaning on them which will cause a burn odor. Any odor coming from outside will find it's way inside through the fresh air vents.

DG 50000. Why is there a hot burning smell when it is running?

The motor, the pump, or the heating element could be getting ready to fail.

Evaporator coils freezing up

no year, stated, nor model car. no engine size or country.

blown fuse.

there are lots of honda back to 1973, just a clue here.

if the heater blower stalled it can burn up.

what info, easy, the FSM , no FSM work blind

or use alldata.com , login and read, it .

smell from where, under hood or dash, gee?

the new resistor will stick until burned in, they smell like hot metal

and are. it just nichrome wire resistor and run very hot.

and are air cooled so the resistor dont burn up.

so a shop would make sure the motor (fan) is good first.

and make sure current is not over 15amps. motors can in fact

partially short and draw too much current not just go dead.

then the resistor, not first.

"but got hot" what got hot,. the cab air exiting the vents, the motor fan

or the what?

a dead fan, motor, check the motor, apply 12vdc to fan like the FSM shows and test the motor, if it spins fast,. check current.

ones that suck too much current run a little too slow. so.......

Engine died burning smell

If the smell is like burning oil or really hot coolant. you may have killed the motor. If it smells like burning plastic ,look for shorthing wires around the exhaust manifold battery, alternator or place that a wire could be burnt. If a rubber smell check for belt failure.

Old emerson electric window fan, does it need oil or to be oiled, my dad has had for many years, I've been noticing a burning smell when fan runs for a long period of time

  • First think I think when I hear of a burning smell is have you cleaned out the motor housing real well lately. Lots of fuzz, dust, etc can build up in there and make that motor really work hard and start to make it want to overheat or over heat. Unplug the fan and take a tooth pic and get in the motor assembly and pull the lint etc out of there with it. Some canned air may help a bit to once things are loosened up.
  • As for lubricating the fan you won't oil it. The motor spins the fan so there is nothing to lubricate. When the motor goes the the fan stops so the best thing you can do is strip that fan the best you can and wash and dry the parts real good and clean the motor housing out real well to let that motor breath as much as possible.
  • When a fan motor gets old and is worked real hard it can get hot by default and things will smell hot. If the fan has already been cleaned real well the best thing you can do is give it a break more frequently or look into a replacement motor.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

2001 aurora when fan is on high for a period of time it smells like the header is burning.

Not sure what a burning header smells like, but I would expect two possible smells. First, if the blower motor itself is going, you might smell the windings getting hot - like a transformer burning. If this were the case I would expect that the motor wouldn't spin on the low speeds.
The other smell you sometimes get is when the heater core leaks. Then you will get a coolant smell inside the car and sometimes (usually) a wet carpet as well.

My vacuum cleaner is giving off a burning smell.

if its a rubber burning smell check the belt and the brushroll. if its an electrical burning smell then dont use it. the motor is overheating and will eventually get hot enough to catch fire.

Heater in 2001 kia spectra stoped working

The burning smell is most likely an issue with the blower motor. These small motors have a hard life and the windings can lose the insulation and short out, hence the burning smell. Another problem can arise if the air intake has filled with leaves and other matter which can be ignited by the fan speed resistor creating the smoke. As this matter rots down, it creates chemicals which can erode the insulation on the motor and cause burning and the eventual failure of the motor. The fan speed resistor is a bank of wirewound or solid state resistors wired across the fan motor which give the individual fan speeds. If these fail then you would lose the fan as well. Search out the fan housing as the resistor is usually fitted into this housing to keep it cool. NEVER turn the fan on if this resistor is out of the housing as it WILL get hot and It can cause a nasty burn..the resistor can have upto 7 wires plugged into it but as to it's exact location, that you will have to find on your own..

The fan inside is having a hard time rotating...starting to smell. what gives?

If the fan motor is quite hot to the touch when it is running and the smell is like something burning and the fan blade isn't rubbing on the housing then the fan motor bearing are most likely worn out. If that is the case then the fan motor is bad and needs to be replaced.
