Question about Computers & Internet
I've looked everywhere and I can't find it.
Below are instructions to adjust brightness on HP laptop
Press the "Fn" key with the computer turned on and hold the key.
Press the "F7" or "F8" key on some HP laptops, which are printed with a small sun icon on the key. The sun icon is filled on the function key for dimming the laptop. The other key is printed with a hollow sun icon for brightening the screen.
Press the "Fn" and left arrow keys together on some HP laptops to turn down the brightness. The "Fn" and right arrow key will increase brightness. Press and release the right arrow key repeatedly, while holding down "Fn," to decrease the screen brightness slowly, or hold the keys to darken the screen as low as the setting will go.
Repeatedly press the down arrow button to dim the monitor gradually.
Press the up arrow key on the monitor to increase brightness.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Hold down the <Fn> Key on the bottom left side of your keyboard, then press either the <Arrow Down> or <Arrow Left>. In most cases it's the <Arrow Down> key, like on my e1505. If it doesn't work, then I would look in the control panel for Dell QuickSet. It will have options for power management, including display brightness.
If all else fails, just search in the control panel for Power management or Power Options.

Some manufacturers made a toggle that is in the upper left hand corner of the touchpad that you tap twice to toggle the touch pad on or off.
Some touchpads will have a button at the very top of the touchpad in the middle that you press to toggle the touchpad on or off.
Some manufacturers let you toggle the touchpad between on and off with keystrokes. Normally the keystrokes is to Press and Hold the ALT or FN function key then hit the correct F1 thru F12 key that toggles the keypad. Normally the correct key that toggles the keypad will have the icon of a finger pointing at a square which represents the touchpad.
You can always try to see what the manufacturer manual says about the keypad.
Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "AcerSupport" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Look for manuals.

Run the Check Disk Utility. You've got some bad or missing system or boot files.
To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.
If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.
In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.
In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

Try pressing [F11] repeatedly on Start-up, to access the Factory Recovery Partition.....
However, PLEASE note that you will NOT find Windows 7 drivers for your laptop if it is that old. (confirmed, HP only supports XP on that model.)
IOW....*IF* you could manage to get win7 to install on it, it is HIGHLY likely that parts of it would not work....video, network, cardbus slot, audio.....all of these would need windows 7 drivers to work properly.
you would likely be able to see a monitor image, but not be able to change the resolution much (stuck at 800x600) and the others....would be hit and miss. and if your network adapters (LAN and WLAN) did not work, I'm not sure of what use it would be to you.....
This is one of the pit-falls in Laptop/Notebook ownership. Although some models have lasted through more than one OS, they are a tiny minority.
