Question about Cameras
After the first underwater shots, my camera quit functioning. the battery compartment was dry and the memory card showed beautiful pictures, but it will no longer turn on. I plugged in the battery charger, and the camera began to get hot and I now see humidity on the inside of the viewfinder and the back screen...It is 1 year and 1/2 old and out of warrenty...booo on Olympus. Any bets on it it will dry and then work?
There's a low chance of it after the camera started getting hot during the recharge. It sounds like water got past the internal seals, and to dry it out properly will require opening the camera and essentially opening all of the seals to get the water to evaporate. If you leave it closed up, the circuitry inside will corrode.
Meanwhile, there is at least one circuit that already shorted and caused the camera to heat up. There's no way to determine whether anything actually burned out or whether it just needs the water to evaporate.

This happened with my camera. Try replacing the card, the card itself may be corrupted. It worked for me when I replaced it.

I wish there was a way I could shout this to everyone so they would all know it at once....ALL SO-CALLED "WATERPROOF" POINT AND SHOOT CAMERAS WILL EVENTUALLY LEAK. THIS WILL USUALLY HAPPEN AFTER YOU HAVE TAKEN THOSE "ONCE IN A LIFETIME" PICTURES. The only real underwater cameras are in a special underwater housing.

SOURCE: i let my friends use
Mistake #1. Letting a "friend" use your camera. Mistake #2. Believing a manufacturer when they tell you the camera is waterproof. The only real waterproof camera is one encased in a plastic waterproof case.
