Question about Mirage OMNI S8 Speaker

1 Answer

Schematic Does anyone know where I can find a schematic of the Mirage Omni S8 sub, or tell me the values of R17 and R53? I was given the sub and it appears to be in very good condition except those two resisters are toast.

SOURCE: Internal damage to Mirage BPSS-210 Subwoofer amp

Something getting hot probably means something shorted out. You probably know that since you replaced the fuses already... . Can you give me some idea of what you do and do not know about electronics? Then I will say fewer dumb things. . When troubleshooting any electronic device, especially amps, open it up and look at the circuit board. Look for burned board and components. Then test to see if the burned/blown component had reason to blow (it probably did). . Often a shorted transistor runs too much current through some other component and the other component blows up. . Another cause, less common, is a shorted cap. . Look at the schematics if you have them, if not, you may have to create one to make sense of it. . Or take it to a shop where somebody does this all the time. The only one here went belly up in the last 12 months... . . About the pots . Try blowing out the pots which are popping with some tuner cleaner. Use with caution, and always with everything turned off and power cords unplugged. . Pots do not usually make popping noises unless they are very old or live in a very dusty place... . I found the manual, but no schematics... http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:9Doi39-AcW0J:www.miragespeakers.com/images/download/374.aspx+Mirage+BPSS-210+schematic&hl=en&gl=us&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESjBKgLSTb8wp5SRWIOWd-gE0INdBXbfz5QDNJ_3esye4_R2Q9aKba8cEePSWQWOebeXB9zXnJSelIel2bLSR5q6KExe8MVjOk1zqFKk4K-ruti_797yf1Ig3CIcUNjE49jx8DAr&sig=AHIEtbS6udedt_o6GqL7ALPunU0v3vMvuw . You might be able to get better, more exacting help on the Mirage Forum... http://community.miragespeakers.com/forums/ But maybe not, since the Subwoofer section gets less than one post per month, and the much busier Technical Questions section only has 23 in the last 12 months.

SOURCE: I WANT TO SELL 4 MIRAGE AVS 200 AND ONE avS 100

There is a set of 4 avs 200's on Ebay for ~$200 OBO so figure around there. Really though these are 10 year old bookshelf speakers so the market for them is pretty soft especially now that Polk and the other big names have affordable bookshelf speakers... (I'm just giving my set to a friend when I move this month)

SOURCE: I have a Mirage Omni

Disconnect all inputs. If it still buzzes there's probably a broken ground somewhere inside it. Technical know-how necessary to proceed.

Otherwise, the buzz originates externally and leaks in through the cabling.

What causes motor boating with this subwoofer

Sometime an amplifier becomes a victim of feedback (or oscillation) within itself. This would normally be caused by a failed component; usually a capacitor.

On high gain amplifiers, poor wire routing can also cause feedback, or crosstalk between channels.

The amp might also have a power supply issue. The voltage regulation might not be good enough to keep the amp functioning properly.

How do I connect a Mirage Omni s-10 Sub Woofer and a Parasound Model 2100 Pre Amp to the NAD C372 Amplifier?

You DO realize the preamp is duplicating stuff in the Nad C372, right? This Preamps adds nothing but PHONO connectivity and control. That's why they're called "preamps".

Register and download the manual for free at retrevo.com

Model 2100 Picture and article:

Use the Sub Out pair on the Preamp (joined by an RCA Y-cable) for the Sub Input on the sub (duh):

http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/preamplifiers/362-a-secrets-preamplifier-and-power-amplifier-review.html?showall=1

Run RCA from the Preamp Main Out to the C372 Aux In to hear any sources attached to the preamp.

Or, if you don't NEED the preamp because you don't have a turntable, ditch the preamp and connect the sub using the speaker outputs on the NADS, according to the manual.

Hello. My mirage sub just started to make a fuzzy noise when playing the bass...it happened after a party that played music on the sub very loud. I don't know what to do....help!

You have damaged the sub by playing it too loud.
Its either the map or speaker that has gone.
You should send it off to get repaired.
