Question about Olympus Cameras

1 Answer

Does not flash

My camera is an Olympus Pen EPL1. I take lots of photos for work and some are in dark rooms. The camera will not take any kind of photo in a dark room and the flash will not work. It just won't work at all. Is there a fix or a setting I can adjust?

It may be switched off. There could also be a break in the wiring to the flash. Without more, there's no way to know.
The first step would be to verify that the flash has not been set to "off" in the flash mode.

SOURCE: Samsung S730 camera wont take photos with flash

I have the same problem with the same exact camera. Before the flash stopped working, I was taking pictures and the flash was making noise. Every time it flashed, it'd make a loud snapping sound. It only flashed 3 times before the flash finally kicked the bucket... Now I can't take pictures when the flash is turned on.

I read somewhere to try new batteries because the flash might not be getting enough juice, but I highly doubt that's going to work.

I sounds like you have altered the white balance setting somehow. This will be in the setup menus. You want it set to auto. If it is already on auto, then I would think the camera has a fault.

This FE-340 Olympus is a great camera. Lots of features and usually great results
  • Indoor pictures with flash set on auto WB (white balance) should not be a problem
  • Indoor pictures without flash requires setting the WB to match the light source in the room (incandescent, florescent etc) Outdoor pictures WB on auto generally not a problem
For more help Include a photo with the metadata of the photo from the image data file

When I click the button to take a picture the screen goes blank and doesn't come back on. Power light is still on.

Your shutter is stuck open. Remove the lens. Set to fireworks mode. May need to be in a dark room. When you press the shutter button tap the camera with an object that won't damage it. I used a rubber coated knife handle. Pull the battery and repeat. Tapping all around the camera. Hopefully it will break free. Then do some continuous shooting to loosen it up.

One source is http://www.adorama.com/FASHOE.html for about $2 plus shipping. It says it's for SLRs, but a hot shoe is a hot shoe, as far as a cover is concerned.

I just got my camera and i cant film for more than 2 minutes how do i fix this? I've tried auto, film setting, art filters etc. Please help me. Thank you so much.

This is certainly a memory card issue, try with a bigger an most important Faster one !!
If your card is not fast enough, the camera buffer will eventually be full because it can't pour the data in the card fast enough, thus stopping the video.

Hope this helps

The LCD on my Epl1 has red flashes on all the images. Why???

It sounds like you have turned on the Highlight/Shadow point warning. I use this all the time to check for blown out highlights.
You should press the INFO button in playback mode to cycle through the picture display options until you get back to the display that you like.

If you mean the menu info is shown but not the picture you want to take, just press the "menu" button again to return to picture mode.
