Question about KitchenAid Dishwashers

Lower wash arm hits in back

Kitchen Aid model KUDS30FXSS0. The machine just started making a loud ticking sound. It appears the lower wash arm is hitting the back cover over the water feed tube. It is like the arm is now sitting lower than it used to. I've taken the arm off and on it doesn't appear to be broken in any way. It is just sitting too low. I'm wondering if a spacer of some type perhaps broke (although I don't see any broken plastic in the bottom). Any hints at what to look for?

SOURCE: installing part

there should be a clip half way up the back and on the top. release those and the old tub should come out with out to much difficulty. the peice that attaches from the feeder arm to the lower spray arm turns clock wise and lifts out. the lower spray arm will unscrew if you use a pair of pliers.

SOURCE: My Kitchen Aid KUDS01FLSS2 dishwasher

Hi.

The fact that "one of the the bottom arms hits the "cap, internal rear feed" where it clips to "feed tube assembly" would suggest a tubing problem. However there are more faults that will result in no spray. Testing in this case can become quite complicate. I suggest calling a technician to perform testing with power on and with door switch jumped.

First inspect the tubing going to the spray arm. If there is a leak the water will fall back inside the tub and there will be no spraying. Use the diagram below to check that all parts are in place. Click on the picture to enlarge:

ginko_129.gif

ginko_130.gif

If there is no leak, then the pump may be not working. A technician can see if the pump is working or if there is a leak by jumping the door switch and opening the door a bit to observe the situation.

You can access the pump hose and check that there is no blockage in the hose connected to the pump, as this may result in no spray.

Even if I think that the problem is either tubing or impeller pump, there are more faults that may result in no spray, I will list them below:

Underfilling: If the machine is underfilling the pump may not catch enough water and won't spray. Check float switch. if there is water in the overfill system, empty the water.

Thermostat. The machine will start recirculating when the thermistor opens. Check hot inlet and test the Thermistor reading impedance with a multimeter. If thermistor does not open in hot water or it is open at room, then the thermistor must be replaced.Thermistor open means that the multimeter shows infinite Ohms when you touch the thermistor contacts with multi-meter probes.

Clogged arms or orifices: The spray arms, ducts or orifices are blocked. This is checked taking apart and cleaning the parts in the two diagrams above.

Main control board: I don't think this is the case. The main control module is replaced when there is no other explanation for the fault.

Start checking from spray arms. Ensure that the pump is working, and check the overfill system. Disconnect power before performing any test.

Here all parts and diagrams for your appliance.

Regards.

Hi

If you have opened all the way to the impeller and cleaned the drain pump assembly completely then the issue is with the pump that is bad and should be replaced. You can also check this video for replacing/cleaning the drain pump:

Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

SOURCE: my lower wash arm is not spinning. I have

The water flows from the sump and is forced through the sump by the motor that is attached to the sump assembly click on this link to see the schematic for that area of the unit http://c.searspartsdirect.com/lis_png/PLDM/M0704047-00008.png part number 6 which is termed as a wash impell is what pushes the wash water through as well as part number 7 which is the accumulator of the unit if the impell or impellar is spining properly and you have cleaned the lower wash arm of all deposits and when you put the arm back on by screwing down part number 1 and then you spun the arm and it did spin freely the issue would then be within the sump some do choose to replace piece by piece of the sump assembly personally I found it much cheaper to just buy the entire sump and replace it as a kit which comes with a new motor as well then to replace piece by piece of the sump assembly in the unit . Make sure that the motor to the unit is running when the unit goes into the wash cycle if the motor is not running then this would be why the water is not flowing to the wash arm also if the arm does not spin properly then you would also have an issue with the water coming out of the arm as well. If you choose you can try to replace the wash impell which is part number 99002659 and if your looking for the best priceing I would use this company they tend to be alot cheaper then the other appliance companies I find http://www.allbrandonline.com/Default.aspx?Page=My%20Account%20Profile If you have any further questions message me back and please remember when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation it allows me to continue helping others in similar situations in the future Thanks Rick

Frigidaire 18" dishwasher arm is not spinning, and dishwasher is making a very loud noise.

Hi Ellie, this is AP!

I understand you are experiencing some trouble with your Frigidaire built-in dishwasher. Without knowing the exact model number I would assume there are two spray arms on this dishwasher, are both arms not moving or just one? Keep in mind that some dishwashers have two spray arms that turn at alternate times. They will never move at the same time. The changing of the arms starts at different times depending model and will continue through the end of the selected wash cycle.
If you can provide the model number for the dishwasher I should be able to provide you with the instructions to remove the spray arms or you could contact the manufacture they may supply it to you also. You could also apply rinse aid to the junction between the spray arms and mount to see if it will relieve the arm to spin. If not, please reply back with the model number so I could provide a more educated response.

Best Wishes,

Hi Gene, I have a customer that has a GE GE GLD6560L15SS dishwasher that makes a loud clicking sound right after the water is pumped out of machine and machine starts up again. the sound is coming from...

Good Morning Brian,
I am wondering does this noise continue throughout the entire wash cycle or does it only happen at the beginning of the wash cycles(s) after the drain cycle??

What i may be checking for if i were you is,if something has become lodged around the area of the heat element ,i know that is unlikely and most probable the small plastic bearing for the lower was arm is what is making the noise it's part number WD01X10107 i have included this link it shows that part it's item number 453 http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/GE-Parts/Dishwasher-Parts/Model-GLD6560L15SS/0432/0130000/G6090335/00005?blt=06&prst=0&shdMod=GLD6560L15SS If it does turn out to be that it, you should also replace item #s 450&item number 454,(part numbers WD12X10061 ,WD12X10057)

If that is not where the noise is coming from please let me know and i will figure it out!!

Have a wonderful and blessed day,

Our asko 3250 is leaving s film and the soap is not coming out of the reservoir. It just sticks in there. Thedishes also have a kind of crust on them.

Check to see that both upper and lower arms are working. You can do this by suddenly opening the diswasher about 6 in and observing if the wand arm on top is revolving. This is done by water from the lower arm being pumped up through a tube mounted in the lower basket that centers over the lower arm and upper arm. Check that the tube is clear. check that water from the lower arm center is being pumped. Check that the hole is clear. if you have hard water, then sometimes the holes get clogged up and the arm will not rotate.(just like a lawn sprinkler) The upper arm rotating is what washes the detergent out of the soap dispenser. To aid in cleaning the spray holes, pour some white vinegar in the bottom of the machine about two cups, and turn the machine on high temp wash. Do not let the mixture drain out untill you have cycled it about five times. When the wash cycle has about finished stop and restart. The acid in the vinegar will help disolve the calcium and hardened soap. After the finish rinse cycle, you can put a little lemon juice in the machine and let it was through, that way the vinegry smell will disapate.

  • It sounds like you have an obstruction with upper or lower spray arm. check to see if the something is stuck in the path of the lower spray arm.
  • move the lower rack out
  • spin the spray arm by hand to see if it is hitting anything
  • if not .....spin the upper spray arm by hand under top shelf to see if it is hitting anything.
  • let me know how this works

Grinding sounds

Grinding sounds that last for longer than 3 minutes at a time are usually an indication of something in the wash pump. If the grinding is only for about 2 minutes at a time it would be something related to the drain pump.

It depends on the make and model on how to clean out the pump or drain pump. If you happen to have a tall tub Kitchen Aid, Whirlpool or Kenmore this link has instructions on how to do that.

The bottom rack is not cleaning properly. Its as if the water pressure is not enough to wash the plates clean.

Ensure that forks or other cuttlery is not poking out the bottom of the basket and obstructing the lower wash arm.
Check to see that the lower arm is receiving water(and not blocked) to do this empty the machine and put a plastic bag around the arm that engages with a socket on the back of the washer this will block water to the upper arm and increase the pressure to the lower arm. Set the machine to rinse when you can hear the machine start to work open the door quickly and see if the lower arm is spinning!

Most likely there is debris at the pump impeller. This model has a problem with debris and grease accumulation at the pump inlet. I have no idea how it gets past the screen but it does. Remove the transfer tube on the back wall, the lower sprayer, and screen assembly. Clean out the debris and reverse installation.

Loud Knocking/Ticking Sound During Cycle

have you lowered the top basket into the lower position? if so the spray arm will knock the cutlery /plates. it sounds as though it is a spray arm problem. remove them and put it in wash to see if the noise goes. if not there may be an obstruction in the wash pump, this is a stripdown job then.
