Question about AEG Refrigerators
Hello. Please excuse probably "duhh" question but I'm confused by the controls on this F/Freeezer. On left is a dial marked 1-5 with a graduated line, thickening from 1-5. Next to it is a schematic picture of the F/F with the top half white and the bottom half black. Over on the right is a similar dial and graduated line going from H - 5 and a schematic with black at the top and white at the bottom. I'm guessing that the left controls the freezer and the right the fridge. Is this right and is 5 'coldest' and does the setting of one affect the operation of the other or are they independent? I ask because after i turned the left dial to 5 the fridge half stopped working and the usual fan noise you'd hear after shutting the fridge door stopped happening. I turned it off at the wall and the fan now makes a noise but I'm not sure if its getting colder. Your experience and thoughts would be much appreciated Ben

SOURCE: loud noise from the freezer side
The problem is a buildup of ice on the plastic housing (the curved plastic bit) in the back of the freezer under the fixed shelf where the icetub goes. The fan behind this plastic housing is hitting the ice when the defrost comes on.
Unplug the fridge, unpack the freezer, remove the four screws in the back, take off the sheetmetal backing and let the fridge thaw. You can remove the plastic piece after a while and get the ice off (be careful not to remove the styrofoam insulation by going too quickly).
Reassemble and you're back in business, for a few months. I'm never buying Samsung again myself.

The compressor is obviously still good or the freezer wouldn't work.I'm sure you checked the settings, but turn the freezer all the way up (hot)after it is cool so the unit doesn't come on for the freezer, then turn the refrigerator controls all the way down to the coolest setting.listen for the compressor to start,and/or the fans to run.If the compressor starts, and no fan there may be a problem with the fan.(this is a general test I'm not familiar with your specific unit which may not have a fan,but most newer units do).If the compressor doesn't start after a short time the thermostat/control for the refrigerator section is broken, and needs replaced.
