Question about Televison & Video
I had a similar problem with my stereo receiver not long ago. The problem ended up being a short in one of the speakers. If your speakers are powered separately from the receiver, it might be that one of them was damaged due to the storm. The short would cause the amplifier to shut down as soon as the speakers are turned on.
The easiest way to check this is to disconnect all the speakers, turn the surround sound on and then reconnect them one at a time to find which speaker is causing the problem.
Hope that helps.

SOURCE: will not turn on
I have an RCA projection widescreen TV model # D52W19B and was watching when it made a pop noise and turned itself off. Now when you try and turn on you get a high pitch beep but TV keeps shutting itself off with no picture or anything. Could this be the bulb went bad?

You know, I've had two repair instances regarding this particular model line (D64U) where there were problems with only the analog inputs (such as the component/composite).... but with no problem with the HDMI inputs.
Replacing the Main Board fixed these TV's. Since both the Xbox and the Wii present the same problem on two separate inputs, this leads me to believe you most likely have a defective Main Board. If your TV is still under warranty, I suggest calling Sharp to locate your local authorized service center.

Same thing for me. TV just turned off one day and won't come back on. LED flashes red. Someone said it's because a cooling fan went out. If I can't find someone to fix it I'll take it apart and tinker myself. 32" with dvd built in was barely over a year old.

SOURCE: laptop dead. power surge.
You need to reset the Power Management Unit. The instructions for most models are here:
Choose the one for your model part way down the page. Once reset you should be up and running again.
All the best
