Trying to charge battery for first time. It says connect two red connectors. Do you charge it first then connect the connector afterwards?

1. I assume this is a car battery so the first thing you do is to disconnect the vehicle cables from the battery terminals. The negative first and then the positive. The positive terminal is marked with a plus sign ...+ ... When refitting the cables to the
battery after it is charged you fit the positive cable to the positive battery terminal(+) first and fit the negative(-) last.

2. Now that the battery is unconnected from the vehicle you can fit the charging cables to the battery terminals. The charger you have should have 2 cables leading from it , a positive with a red plastic insulation on the clip and a negative cable probably with black insulation on the clip. The instructions with the charger will tell you in which order the cables are to be attached to the battery and the order you remove them. Each of the 2 cables has to be clipped onto the correct battery terminal. The positive cable(+) from the charger goes to the positive battery terminal (+)and the negative cable(-) from the charger goes to the negative battery terminal(-).

3. Once the cables from the charger are properly connected to the battery, you can plug in the charger and turn on the power.

4. Batteries generate explosive gasses when being charged and it only takes one small spark to ignite them. Don't reconnect the battery after charging for a half hour or so and make sure the area where you are charging is well ventilated.

Does the battery have to go in a charger for charging

lila, yes you have to put the battery on the charger to charge the battery, if not the charger wont charge anything, after you put the battery on the charger hold, before that don't forget to equalize the pin charge with the battery there was a marking or emboss note negative pole and positive pole for the battery fit on it charge, then you can go for the electric plug. For additional note there is light indicator green for full battery, orange for the half battery energy and the last one is red light blink for the on going charge the battery. i hope it help, remember safety first.

Replaced battery clamps, got in to start it up to find the car totally dead. the battery seems fully charged when I put it on the slow charger. Does this car require a special clamp, and or cable set up?

First Make sure the batter was charged with possitive on the plus and negative on the minus sign. For some crazy reason my battery drained and I charged it by just looking at the colored pads and the previous owner had them on backwards so I basically reversed the poles on my battery. (The car wouldn't start either). Use a volt meter to be sure it will show - minus sign if backwards

Make sure all your cables were reinstalled, (red wire to alternator and starter) Black wires to grounds.

If all that checks and your battery show good voltage try your (Large fuses) mains that are 20,30,40,50,and 60 amps.

I have the Travel Pal plugged into the charger. The charger has a green light on for electricity being on but there is no light on where it shows it"s charging. And it's not charging.

have yoy checked that the battery is well pluged. meaning possitive with possitive and negative with negative. sometimes grasse is stock on the joints of electricity, so brush them with a metalic brush, that should solve the proble.

Ignition wont start

Check for power on the thin wire going to the solenoid when ignition is turned al the way to start possition,if so it probably won't be the same voltage as your battery, it will be lower.
You need to fit a universal relay so that the solenoid gets the same voltage as the battery when measured with a multimeter between the negative and positive poles.
If no power present on the thin wire with key turned to start possition, there is a wiring problem or broken (thin wire) from ignition switch to the solenoid.
If ignition switch is wired correctly, check if power is transfered from one of the thicker wires to the thin wire feeding the solenoid when key is turned to the start possition, on the ignition switch where the wirng is connected.

Where is negative connection for battery on 2006 dodge charger srt8

Also, to add to some mild confusion, the terminals under the hood on the charger are just there for a jump, thus there is only a positive terminal. The battery is actually stored in the trunk next to the spare.
