Z565 usb ports broken

Both USB ports on my Lenovo Z535 are physically broken. They have shed small parts and no USB devices will connect to them. Do I have to replace my motherboard to replace them or is there a less costly fix?

Your USB ports on your Dell computer are plug and play. If you have issues with your USB port, it is port related, driver related or device related. The following solutions will help you identify the problem to resolve your USB port issues.
To Identify a Working USB Port
Begin troubleshooting your USB ports by checking Device Manager to see if your USB ports or hubs are working properly.

  1. Click the Start button. ClickControl Panel.
  2. ClickSystem and Maintenance.
  3. ClickDevice Manager.
  4. Double-clickUniversal Serial Bus controllersand check to see if all your USB ports, hubs and controllers are functioning correctly. Any devices not functioning will have a yellow exclamation mark in front of them.
  5. If Device Manager shows any USB ports, hubs or controllers are not functioning, check for updated drivers.

To Update the USB Port Driver

An out-of-date BIOS driver can create issues with your system recognizing the USB port.
  • Watch a Video on Steps to Update Bios on Your Computer.
    1. When the update process is complete, your computer will restart again to load the operating system with the new driver version installed.

To Run a Diagnostic Test on your USB Port

Dell has an online diagnostic tool to help identify and fix issues with your system.
  1. Go to theDell PC Diagnosticpage
  2. UnderChoose a Diagnostic Type, selectHardware.
  3. Using the scroll bar on the right-hand side of the window below, locate the listing for USB.
  4. SelectUSB.
  5. ClickRun Diagnostics.
  6. Agreeto Terms and Conditions in Legal Statement.
  7. Follow the instructions to test each USB port.

Hi anuj_shahi24,

Based on your situation, I suggest trying the following steps:
1. Download the updated camera driver here. 2. Go to camerasection and make sure you select the Windows XP or Vistaversion of the drivers that matches your Windows operating system. 3. Afterdownloading install the driver then restart your computer. For theUSB concern,

1. Gointo Device Manager and uninstall all of the USB related devices.

2. Shut down and restart the computer. Windows will redetect and reload
the USB drivers which may resolve the issues.

3. If the problem persists then I suspect that you may have a physical
(hardware) problem with the USB ports themselves and therefore you
should have a hardware repair technician examine the computer.

Hope ithelps.Thanksfor using Fixya

SOURCE: Experiencing following on boot: Lenovo

Kindly set the BIOS on start up. You may have disabled the USB. If the matter persists then check the drivers in the device manager if they are correctly installed. Or if the problem is your Operating System then have it updated by installing online updates. This would install necessary drivers. If the problem still persists then, look for a computer technician to check your laptop.

SOURCE: Hi. The USB ports on

If you have tried every USB port and you use another USB device to it.. You may check the device manager ryanpajaro20_7.jpg and check if the USB controllers are disabled.. If not, you may click View and then click Scan Hardware Changes.. If still won't work, that is time that you call lenovo and have you laptop replaced defective USB ports..

Can i use different usb ports? How?

Yes you can unless you have a conflict with another USB device. Simply try another usb port. If that does not work try a usb hub.. also remember most computers have usb port on the front of the computer as well as the back of the computer.

broken usb on lenovo g550
you will have to remove the covers and the keyborad and the keyboard base plate. on lenovo g550, the single usb on the right side is replaceable easily since it is conneted with a flat cable to motherboard, but, the two usb ports on the let side are soldered on the motherboard and hence you have to remove the motherboard and desolder the broken ones and solder new cnnectors in their place. need experience in getting to e motherboard and remove it. see the youtube link for lenovo g550 laptop disassemble and assembling.mp4.

Is there a USB switch like a KVM switch? Where do I go for the best price on such an item?

All you need is a USB hub, I suggest you get a powered type because if any USB device you connect into this USB hub that draws excess power from the laptop, you will get an error power message. A powered USB hub does not rely on power from the laptop's USB port.
These USB hubs allow you to connect several USB devices at once. Most USB hubs have 4 USB ports.

UBS port won't allow my memory stick to go in is there a lock on it???

Hello !

Be certain you are trying a USB port. It is rectangular in shape. The USB memory stick will only go in one way. Try flipping it over.

If still a problem ...

Either your USB memory stick is bad or your USB port on your notebook is bad.

Try another memory stick or try a different USB port on your notebook - should determine which is OK and which is bad.

Hope this helps.

Error power surge on hub port

Some USB devices draw too much current from the computer's USB port and you get an exceed power error message.
To get around this problem, get a powered USB hub and connect it to the Computer's USB port and then connect the troublesome USB device into the powered USB hub.
