Question about M-Audio Studiophile BX8 Main / Stereo Speaker

Tweeter not working??

When I turn on my speakers, one tweeter doesn't work always. However, upon increasing the volume drastically, it will sometimes come back in. I've tried switching the cables, with no luck fixing the problem. Also, I slowly inserted the TRS connection to see if that would fix it, and it appears to work fine until it's all the way in.... so maybe input jack issues??

Since it sometimes gices a sound, and i know the problem when it's not put it totally and does it. I want to know what it does with rca cables, trs cables and xlr cables and what it does and what ut doesn't. The connection inside in the trs and on one pcb , connected to your main pcb with three cables and it could be that one is not connected right. First of all. it's in the Netherland minimal twp years quarantee, since you may expect the speakers go allong min 2 years. Check you consumerrights, before start screwing.
And just measure your cables with a simple ohm meter or buy for 25 euro a cable meter....very easy and the costs ain't a thing.
gr. richard.... With all the cheap speakers and cheap connectors it might just as well beinig the connector inside, i hate them and replace them.

SOURCE: woofer not working on new bx8a speaker

Hi ermo

Your new speakers are BiAmped, and if a woofer is not working then it is probably a fault in the amp or connection for that woofer, or the the woofer itself has a problem. If they are brand new, I suggest you take it back to purchase point to get sorted out. There is nothing that you can do that will NOT void your warranty. If you do not have a warranty, then get back to me here and we can work through the problem. Cheers

SOURCE: The Tweeter on the left speaker just went out only

Verify that it's not the speakers by switching them to the output. Swap left and right. The problem may be the amplifier.

SOURCE: I just got a pair of M Audio BX5A Deluxe monitors

Just because the capacitor doesn't have a bulge, doesn't mean it's good. It could still be "leaky". Here is some information on that.

For small caps (like 0.01 uf or less), about all you can really test is for shorts or leakage. (However, on an analog multimeter on the high ohms scale you may see a momentary deflection when you touch the probes to the capacitor or reverse them. A DMM may not provide any indication at all.) Any capacitor that measures a few ohms or less is bad. Most should test infinite even on the highest resistance range.

For electrolytics in the uF range or above, you should be able to see the cap charge when you use a high ohms scale with the proper polarity - the resistance will increase until it goes to (nearly) infinity. If the capacitor is shorted, then it will never charge. If it is open, the resistance will be infinite immediately and won't change. If the polarity of the probes is reversed, it will not charge properly either - determine the polarity of your meter and mark it - they are not all the same. Red is usually **negative** with (analog) VOMs but **positive** with most DMMs, for example. Confirm with a marked diode - a low reading across a good diode (VOM on ohms or DMM on diode test) indicates that the positive lead is on the anode (triangle) and negative lead is on the cathode (bar).

If the resistance never goes very high, the capacitor is leaky.

The best way to really test a capacitor is to substitute a known good one. A VOM or DMM will not test the cap under normal operating conditions or at its full rated voltage. However, it is a quick way of finding major faults.

A simple way of determining the capacitance fairly accurately is to build an oscillator using a 555 timer. Substitute the cap in the circuit and then calculate the C value from the frequency. With a few resistor values, this will work over quite a wide range.
Alternatively, using a DC power supply and series resistor, capacitance can be calculated by measuring the rise time to 63% of the power supply voltage from T=RC or C=T/R.

JBL speaker's woofer occasionally cuts out - tweeter still works.

Your driver has a damaged voice coil, you can either find a speaker repairer to replace the voice coil or find a replacement driver to fit.

My jamo d115 speaker tweeter distorts or rattels when any serious bass kicks in, how do you stop this?w

Possible this is a distortion from the Amplifier if the speakers are not damaged. however it is important to switch the speakers to confirm if the fault is relative to the particular channel in which case the amplifier is faulty. If not the speaker can be the culprit. All what is needed is to reduce the BASS level a bit lower when the volume is increased so as to allow the cross over to work. Also if teh cross- over network is faulty within the speaker the bass can vibrate on the tweeter.

My Creature II speakers still work however the big subwoffer isnt working. I think it is probably just the cord but is there a way I can be sure

Which cord are you thinking of? If you look at the subwoofer there are 4 cords. One to the left tweeter, one to the right tweeter, one to the computer and one to the power.
  1. As both the tweeters are woring then those 2 cords are OK.
  2. As both tweeters are working then the cord to the computer is OK.
  3. As both tweeters are working then the cord to the power is OK.
  4. Therefore it is not 'just the cord.'
What I would suggest is checking that the sub has not been turned down - one of the silver posts on the sub. If that is not the case and you cannot turn the sub volume up then I suggest that you replace the system. They probably cost more to repair than to buy new.

It's probably blown tweeters. But if you want to spend the money on a hipshot guess, try to find the the crossovers somewhere first; then find the readily available tweeters if/when that doesn't work out. Google "alesis monitor one MK2 tweeter".

You could test the tweeters by just removing one non-functional tweeter and wiring it directly to the speaker leads and with REALLY LOW volume containing NO BASS see if it makes any sound, which would prove it does/does not work.

Going forward, if the speakers sound stressed at high volume - THEY ARE. Too much power or too much distortion (overdriven amplifier) will kill speakers.

The top part of the mackie speaker isnt working. all that is working is the big bottom part, and the sound sounds like the bass is the only thing coming out.

The typical cause of this is a blown tweeter or the tweeter has broken off of the horn and fallen inside the cabinet. Remove the screws from the horn and carefully remove the assembly. Try the speaker at low volumes to see if you hear any sound at all. Next, remove one of the wires and using a 9Volt battery quickly touch the 2 leads on the tweeter. If you don't hear a click, the tweeter needs to be replaced. Contact Mackie service for a replacement.

If you hear a click, then the problem is in the crossover or amp and further investigation willbe required.

3000 watt. Really? You possibly have a blown tweeter. If your "3000 watt" amplifier really pushed 3000 watts to them or some much lower number with a lot of distortion (square waves) you will kill speakers (especially tweeters). Or maybe it's just missing the jumper between the two inputs on the back or a bad speaker cable. Do some more diagnosis. Swap things around. Use LOW volume to test.

It would appear they've blown one channel on the Amplifier and one Tweeter on your Speaker. It's more than likely that the Tweeter has blown first and overloaded the Amplifier.

The Tweeter shouldn't be a problem to replace (eBay more than likely) and you'll probably be better getting a new pair and replacing them both.

The Amplifier could be a different issue depending what Country you're in and your Technical ability?.

If you need any further assistance once you've opened the unit then just ask.

I have wharfdale atlantic 400se. The tweeter is no longer working. How do i work out if it is a cross over or the tweeter

If there was a traumatic high-volume event that preceded this problem, I'd guess the tweeter died.

If you can access the connections on the tweeter and you have an ohmmeter, you could disconnect the tweeter and measure across the the terminals. A shorted or open voice coil = dead tweeter. A measurement near the stated impedance is probably ok.

If you have NO ohmmeter, you could carefully connect the output of one amplifier channel directly to the tweeter and just scooch the volume upward slightly from silence while playing something with very little bass in it. If you hear it, the tweeter is alive.

How do i wire the crossover on the dxd210/213

If the crossover is made to accept speaker level input from amp then.....Amp/head spkr output + to crossover + input. Amp/head spkr output - to crossover - input. Crossover midbass + out to midbass spkr + input. Crossover midbass - out to midbass spkr - input. Crossover vari-tweeter + out to tweeter spkr + input. Crossover vari-tweeter -3 or -0 or -6 out to tweeter spkr - input. You have to choose for your preference. 0db makes the tweeter respond normally. -3db mean 3db lower in volume...and -6 means 6db lower in volume. Choose based on your liking.
