2)Buy a new plug keep the receipt to if it the laptop power supply cord. 1)Check different plug to see if it the plug. 3)Check for the laptop battery buy a new one. Do one thing at a time.So you can take it back to the store. To save money. If not all of em take it the manufactured.

I am presuming that your laptop is OUT of warranty and you have a good idea of what you are doing?
Ensure you have an ESD strap on when touching components.

It's a simple fix , but one that requires a generic Vista disk, not a recovery one , like the one which would have come with the laptop. You will need to borrow one from a friend (or download one from an address i can't give you here, just google Vista, iso and torrent) and follow this
