One of my hvac dampers is stuck open

Zoned forced air systems that use multiple thermostats that can start a single heating and cooling unit from each stat and condition just that space that called it, are conditioned by the auto damper you are referring to. These dampers are normally spring closed and driven open using a small 24 volt motor (Called an Actuator or Operator) connected to the stat that operates the damper motor with a relay. Disconnect the damper crank arm and linkage between the damper and its motor and see if the damper rotates closed. See if the damper will move freely. Power and remove power from the motor to see if it works. Doing these things will probably find the problem. Good Luck. Roger

2011 jeep liberty heater blows cold air

gas not diesel right?
what engine? option? size?
there are only 3 causes (and many parts to fail)
  1. engine coolant not hot at 180F or more.
  2. said coolant not flowing Through heater core (feel the 2 hoses?)
  3. air not flowing over heater coil. , damper stuck closed?

once the above is found.we can diagnose why?

the FSM covers all this , in the HVAC chapter.
say engine is hot, and core is hot.
you check the damper and its stuck closed.
?
1: controls not telling damper to move. (falling)
2: damper motor bad. (called the HVAC acuator by jeep)

on this new of car, we must scan it, the scan tool that supports
jeeps will set HVAC errors aplenty.
my innova 3160 can do that.

my FSM dont do that new a car.

or
engine not hot
heater core not hot
or damper door stuck closed on core, blocking heat.

This unit has a heater on the damper door. Sometimes the heaters go bad our just weak, causeing the damper door to freezer close. You can try thawing our damper by removing it to see if the issue happens again.

Try using a hair drier to force warm air into the damper to see if the damper will close better by melting any ice that may have the damper stuck open. Here is the=> WR09X10050 Damper Thermister Assembly Instructions on how to change this part can also be found on the same page HERE If you have any questions please ask, Thanks Sea Breeze

In winter, cold air blows back down and out through the fan.

Hi,
Either a backdraft damper was never installed in the ductwork or the damper is stuck open...
Has it always been this way?? If so then the damper probably was never installed and you will need to have one installed to stop the air...
If it was good at the beginning and now is not then the damper is stuck open...you will need to find it and then get it working agian...
The dampers often are right at the outlet of the hood...if you take down the hood it should be right there...

Items in the lower refrigerator compartment arefreezing

Hi, Sounds like the damper or damper belt may be at fault. The cold air enters the refer compartment through the damper in the back. If that damper is not controlled to close/open as needed it is likely stuck fully open all the time. That will let cold air in no matter what the t-stat says. See if you can view with a mirror and see if the damper "blinds" are fully open. If the t-stat is turned all the way down the dampers should close, as less cold air is needed. Then, as the t-stat is turned up, the dampers open to let in cold air from the freezer compartment.

Take care

Refrigerator Too Cold

The damper is probably stuck open. There is a damper and a fan between the freezer and the refrigerator. The damper regulates the cool air from freezer to refrigerator side. When the refrigerator temperature is satisfied it will close the damper. It seems to me it may be stuck open. Check your owners manual for any possible solutions to the problem. Then try unplugging your refrigerator for just a minute and plugging back in to see if it will reset any electronic devices. If that fails I would call the manufacturer.

Fresh food side freezing

the air damper is stuck open or tempature control is bad. look thru the vents(use a mirror) on the left rear(top side) of the fresh food compartment (right hand door) to see if the air damper is open/closed. i am sure it will be open since your freezing food in the ref section. if it is open ,watching with your mirror turn ref (fresh food) control off. the air dmper should close, if not damper could be stuck(ice build up,piece of foam, ect) if you can determine damper door is free, then best thing to do is replace controlassy.(120.00 or so) good luck
