My acer aspire 4315 lcd is faulty...i can see in it but its so dark

kezler_0007,

I have found in the 8 years of being online, and providing answers/solutions to people's computer problems; that coming across, and trying to explain the answer/solution, is the hardest thing to do.

It appears I have failed you

Let's try again;

1) Perusing the internet, I look at what LCD screens are offered, (Aspire 4315 series of Notebook PC's), and see what backlighting is offered.

I have seen LCD screen examples offered, that seem to be CCFL backlighting.
I DO have to know however, WHAT style of backlighting is used for YOUR laptop.

Do Not want to make a mistake here, because the mistake could cost you five times as much.

You buy a not needed LCD screen, about $100, and only needed a screen Inverter; about $18.

!O_O!?

IF, your laptop states LED backlighting, THEN the only option is to buy the entire LCD screen.
With LED backlighting, the LED backlighting is incorporated into the LCD screen assembly.

There is no simply replace the LED backlighting.

With a laptop that uses CCFL for backlighting, the first thing to do is replace the screen Inverter.
90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is a bad screen Inverter.

Allow me to state the primer over again, now that I have more room;

An LCD screen does Not produce light,

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/NA_Optical/Systems/BehindTheScenes/Optics101/

(Click on the monitor icon)

Therefore an LCD screen needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight can be a CCFL, (Or two of them), Or a series of LED's.
(Light Emitting Diode)

When I state series, I mean a LOT of LED's. They are incorporated into the LCD screen assembly.
(You see from the above link that an LCD screen is an assembly)

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp. (Bulb)
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

Average thickness is 2mm. That is a little larger than 1/16th of an Inch.
Average length is almost as long, as the LCD screen is in height,

http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/12/09/replace-laptop-backlight-ccfl-lamp/

View the last 8 photos to see what an average CCFL looks like.

Know this also; A CCFL is a Fluorescent bulb.
This means it has MERCURY in it.
VERY dangerous if the bulb breaks!
Mercury is POISON to the human body.

IF, it is determined that the laptop uses CCFL/s for a Backlight, -> AND the CCFL/s are bad, I implore you to have a pro change it/them.
The other option would be to replace the LCD screen.
The CCFL is incorporated into the LCD screen assembly.

HOWEVER, I still go with the screen Inverter is bad.
(IF, the laptop uses CCFL for a Backlight)

Go to the 'paragraph' that starts with Aspire 1200. (1200 in Blue)
Drop down to the 4th line, (3810T in blue), scroll across, and click on - 4315

This is a free Service Manual.
It is in PDF file form.
The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.

After you click on the file name (4315) it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up.
(The file is downloading in the background)

[May be on my end, but it took 44 seconds just now, and using a medium speed DSL connection. Usually takes 10 to 12 seconds. Just letting you know so you do not think the link doesn't work ]

LCD Module Disassembly Process - Page 86

Hmmm, also states Inverter Board. (screen Inverter)

Removing the LCD Module is on Page 71.

4) NOT an Acer Aspire 4315 series of Notebook PC; Aspire 3810T. Posted so you would be able to get a more 'Hands on' idea, of working on your laptop,

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/replace-broken-screen-acer-aspire-3810t-laptop/

Test the screen Inverter before replacing?
IF you have a sensitive multimeter, you can. Otherwise IMHO the choice is to just replace the screen Inverter.
Parts changing I know, and I abhor it; but if it is your only choice?

Where in the Philippines to order from? Do not know.
Suggest using the internet.

I uninstalled a program that had named itself program files, and I think it uninstalled everything on windows XP I don't get a login screen anymore

The only thing i know to be named "Program Files" is a default folder created upon installing the OS. It wouldnt be a program, its a folder where the programs you install are stored by default. if you did delete this folder, you may no longer have a working OS, and might need to reinstall your OS.

Advent 7111 narrow screen

If the display isn't going full screen, on that 15.4 inch TFT LCD screen, the problem is the screen Inverter, or LCD screen itself.

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is the screen Inverter.
It isn't a simple screen resolution setting that needs to be changed.

http://www.laptoppowerjacks.co.uk/advent-inverter/advent-7111-7107-8315-lcd-screen-inverter-as023217127-iv09140t-lf.html

Primer:

An LCD screen does not produce light by itself,

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Vikuiti1/BrandProducts/secondary/optics101/

It needs an additional light source.
The additional light source is a Backlight.

A Backlight can be a CCFL, or a series of LED's.
The Advent 7111 Notebook PC uses One CCFL,

http://www.screencountry.com/index.php?section=products&model=7111&brand=Advent&size=

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

(Average size is 2mm Thick. Length is almost as long, as the LCD screen is in height. 2mm is close to 1/16th of an Inch )

A screen Inverter is used to convert the power from the laptop, for the Backlight, and LCD screen.

Primer over.

I don't have access to a Service Manual, for the Advent 7111 Notebook PC. I haven't had one come to my shop for repair.

I DO have years of experience at repairing laptops, and I see the Advent 7111 is just a basic laptop, as I HAVE repaired over the years.

If you wish, I can guide you step by step, in replacing the screen Inverter.

(MANY people go out, and buy an LCD screen, when the problem is a much less expensive screen Inverter. Afterwards they buy the screen Inverter. Too bad they didn't come here first)

Post back in a Comment.

[ The Advent 7111 Notebook PC is just a re-badged Quanta TW3M.
According to the source, you should see TW3M on the bottom of the laptop.

Sounds like the backlight has gone. What is the make and model - you may be able to get parts or you may be looking for a salvage one.

I have a Canon A560 camera. It takes pictures and I can download them to my computer OK. But the LCD screen is black, I don't see any display at all. Pushing the display button does no good.It got...

If your LCD doesn't light up then it's either the backlight or the LCD, you can open up the camera and check the cables before buying any parts. Some LCD screens come with the backlight, some don't; not sure if this one does or not.

IF it was water damage, you probably have corrosion on the main PCB and won't be able to fix it without replacing the board... open it up and check for corrosion!

Hope this helps.

My hp dv600 when powered up looks normal but if i give it a few seconds the screen goes black and wont come back i shined a light and i do have picture but no light maybe ballast?

alejandro,

An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Very similar to the Fluorescent lamps, (Bulbs), used in homes and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

HP Pavilion dv6000z series Notebook PC, is a general series designation. The EXACT model number is on the bottom of the laptop in a white Service Tag.

The HP Pavilion dv6000z series of Notebook PC's used either an LED or CCFL type of Backlighting.
Depends on which model it is.

http://www.screentekinc.com/backlight-ccfl-led-explained.shtml

As stated in the above information a Backlight is mounted in the back, or on the side of the LCD screen.
The LCD screen is composed of layers. These layers are held together by a metal frame which emulates a picture frame. If the Backlight is a side unit it will be held in place next to the layers, and inside the metal frame.

[Which means the LCD screen's metal frame, (LCD Panel Frame), needs to be opened on one side.
This will leave the layers which compose the LCD screen loose. The layers MUST be held in the proper placing when changing out the Backlight. Not an easy job to accomplish]

An Inverter is used to change the power coming from the laptop, to be used by the LCD screen, and Backlight.
90 percent of the time the problem is the Inverter.

The Inverter for the Pavilion dv6000z series of Notebook PC's is located inside the Display Assembly.

The Display Assembly is the
1) Display Enclosure Cover, (Plastic top of laptop),
2) LCD screen,
3) LCD Panel Frame, (Metal frame around LCD screen),
4) Display Bezel, (Thin plastic frame which surrounds the LCD screen in the front)
5) Camera Module
6) Inverter
7) Display Enclosure Cover Hinges (2)
8) Display Enclosure Cover Hinge Covers (2)
9) Wireless Antenna Transceivers and Antenna Cables
10) Microphone receivers and cables
11) Various mounting screws

[The Top Cover for a Pavilion dv6000z series Notebook PC is essentially the Palm Rest. The cover under the Keyboard]

With the Display Bezel removed the Inverter is located at the bottom.
(Display Assembly removed from laptop first)

The model of my laptop is TOSHIBA SATELLITE U400 MODEL NO. PSU40C-DW208C the problem is the backlight of the LCD is built in and no power on it, thats why i cannot totally see because its very dim color,...

Greetings,

It may not be the backlight, it may be the screen inverter which is a reasonable replacememnt. As a laptop specialist in my town, I always order both the screen inverter and the LCD unless both are sold combined.

Fixing a backlight is one of the most difficult laptop repairs possible to attempt. 1. You're not going to fix it. 2. In replacing it you'll have to do such delicate hand-soldering that even I don't attempt it any more and I'm VERY good with my hands.

So, friend, please order a new LCD and screen inverter and you'll be just fine after having someone spend about 1 hour replacing both.

Kind Regards,

Selk

Full screen fluctuation in Acer Laptop.

Sound very much like your LCD inverter might be going luckily there pretty cheap and you should be able to find one on Ebay.

An LCD (liquid-crystal display) inverter is a component in laptop computers that supplies the power to provide a backlight to the monitor, enabling the user to view what's on the screen. This component is commonly the culprit when the monitor goes out and can be moderately simple to replace.
