SOURCE: freezer not defrosting

Your defrost drain line is frozen over.Remove everything from the fridge and turn it off for 24 hours with the doors standing open.
The drain line will thaw and you will return to normal operation.
You could also turn the fridge off, remove the freezer floor panel and back panel. Take a hair dryer and thaw out the drain hole. Takes about 2 hours.
You decide which procedure to use.

GE TBX25R refrigerator not cooling. Found thick ice on freezer coils on the mid to upper half. The defrost heater is working, no ice closest to coils and tested the element. Help!

You say the defrost heater is working, but does it switch off at the end of the defrost cycle?

A refrigerator is a closed box and the only water vapour to condense and freeze to produce ice should be from the food and the opening of the door. Remember the days before auto defrost when a fridge in good order needed defrosting only a couple or three of times each year? That is a normal ice build up.
A freezer needed less deicing than that.

Excessive ice signals the possibility of an insulation failure (search for cold areas on the outer casing) a bad door seal, an auto defrost malfunction or possibly a general decline in the efficiency of the cooling system due to a worn compressor or lack of refrigerant - an ice build up in the freezer only means the temperature is below freezing, you didn't mention what the freezer temperature actually is but I wager it is far above the minus 18 - 27 degrees C of an efficient freezer.

One method of judging the efficiency of a refrigeration system - the purpose of which is to move heat from the inside of the cabinet to the outside where it is dispersed by the condenser which will naturally become quite warm. If the condenser isn't as warm or even almost hot as usual while the compressor is running then it isn't efficiently moving heat from inside the cabinet.

Generally a lack of efficiency tends towards longer than usual compressor cycling and even constant running.

The temperature keeps on rising. everything inside is melting. does not freeze anything. fan and light is working.

Turn it off, defrost it for a couple of days """""with the door open""""", restart it with door closed and see if it starts freezing again after about 2-3 hours, if so, then the draw unit works, that indicates the defrost cycle needs to be reset or one of the defrost elements has failed causing the rest no to do anything. HOW DO I DEFROST FREEZER

Hi,

Most modern freezers don't need to be defrosted, but should be washed out and cleaned periodically. Following are steps for defrosting freezers that need it -generally when ice builds up to a thickness between 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch.

  1. Step 1 Turn the freezer off. Controls may be inside the refrigerator.
  2. Step 2 Remove all food from the freezer and store in an ice chest while you are defrosting.
  3. Step 3 Remove ice in the freezer compartment. This can be done by: a) letting the freezer door stand open until ice melts; b) putting a pan of hot water in the freezer compartment and closing the door, then checking for melting ice and reheating the water every 10 to 15 minutes; c) using a hair dryer by aiming warm air at ice in freezer until it melts.
  4. Step 4 Pick up ice and water as it melts with a dishcloth or sponge and deposit into sink.
  5. Step 5 Use a sponge or dishcloth and a bowl of warm water to thoroughly wipe out inside of freezer once the freezer is cleared of ice.
  6. Step 6 Turn the freezer back on, close the door and let run for 10 to 15 minutes before returning food to the freezer.
  7. Step 7 Put food back into freezer and close the door.

BEKO Frost free freezer not as cold as it should be!

Sorry I don't have a solution for you, however would like to know if you found out what was wrong. I have an identical problem with my Beko fridge/freezer. It's only 14 months old and the freezer just wont freeze. I've turn it off for 24 hour and let it defrost completely (even had the panel off to make sure there was no ice left). I've turned it back on again and it still wont freeze. Everything seems ok, ie fan blowing, motor running etc. I really am beginning to regret buying Beko. thanks

Bottom Freezer has ice built up

Possibly the defrost element is faulty, this is located behind a cover in the back of the freezer compartment and is attached to the fins of the evaporator. It also has a defrost limit thermostat which could also be the problem. I presume that the fan is working after you have defrosted the unit?

Someone left the door slightly open. Cold weather has nothing to do with it. To check the seal take a dollar bill and place it in the jam hanging onto part of it close the door on the bill and then pull it. It should be tightly fit when you pull on the bill. Is the unit a refer or freezer? Is it inside or out.
